May be CWG in Delhi is the cause for LESS import from India; created shortage; while local tomatoes are extremely bad quality (may find stupid answer).

Genuine reason...

Demand supply issue

I also noticed that, i was surprised during ramadan season I went to supermarket nearby my house for a few potatoes. I was extremely shock with the price per kilo @ about 9QR.

Not just this item, some commodities are out of stock most of the time, like Gallon of RAYYAN mineral water.

WHAT HAPPENED TO QATAR, with my 4 years stay in Qatar this is the first we experienced the shortage of such commodities and sudden increase with the cost.

The answer was in the news a few days back.

Some veg and tomatoes in low supply. After Ramadan, during the eid break most of the long distance drivers go home for eid, hence the suppliers sell their wares elsewhere and it will take time to get regular supplies to the ME, till the drivers get back to work

It could be that wherever Qatar imports tomatoes is not in harvest season. Like somebody already mentioned, supply and demand!
