Mobile phone jammers for vehicles in GCC
The GCC specification for vehicles should include the installation of mobile phone jammers that would automatically make phone calls unavailable while the vehicle is moving, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended yesterday.
A number of recommendations to address the issue of road accidents in Qatar were issued by the civic body at its regular session, according to a Gulf Times report.
The CMC observed that the use of mobile phones while driving accounts for a large number of accidents on the roads, in particular the fatal ones.
In 2014, the Traffic Department permanently cancelled more than 100 driving licences because of accidents.
Use of mobile phones has definitely contributed to high accident rates in Qatar, but is mobile phone jammer the answer? What do you think, QLers?
Good decision, though Traffic department need to take strict and tough action to implement traffic laws.
From driving school it self, give proper driving classes...
if so, we may require more parking spaces near the road sides..
if it is implemented by the authorities, we can see the ads saying 'unlocked mobile jammer car for sale'... 'unlocking software for sale'... 'home service jammer unlocking...' in QL itself..!! lol
People can take photos of the drivers including vehicle number, who is using mobile phone during driving and send to the authority,so that they can put penalties and this amount should goes to the the guy who took the photo as reward.
Strongly disagree with the suggestion.
That's why, car's built in blue tooth or other blue tooth/hands free devices are meant for, use them. Put strict and heavy penalties on violators with no exemptions.
Research found that 80% of smartphone users check their mobile devices within 15 minutes of waking up each morning. Set up their mobile alarm, notification from social media, updating messaging apps or emails. Bottom line: Smartphones and other mobile devices will changed the way people view like mido-doha said "change the minds and the brains of the people before you change the cars specs"
B2 , Well said in one line ... "don't text/call while driving..etc".
Mobile companies (Ooredoo & Vodafone) and government sector must work together with mutual understanding to achieve this awareness. Before the day starts a gentle reminder to everybody receiving a simple message thru sms/txt that "don't text/call while driving..etc".
its not BIG solution more cctv camera's,civil police or phone jammers etc etc,..even we give violation or point for all motorist.,why dont you try to implement the confiscating the license due to illegal violation stop driving to entire life in doha..because any violation that giving is nothing happen, they have money and we can pay for that....thats all my opinion inshalla!!!!
not a smart solution....as what other said, CCTV and vigilant monitoring from the authorities will do. stiff fines-maximum of 5 mobile related violations in 1 month will merit a revocation of license.
I disagree with that.
There are people who spend 10hours driving daily esp. those truck drivers so imagine they stop for every call. They will not finish one delivery of goods.
Just saying
The jammer should be limited to the drivers seat and should be active when the vehicle is in motion ,so that the driver can receive calls and messages after he has placed it on the adjacent(passenger) seat.He can find some time to return calls or messages by parking his car on the side.
By this, the safety on the road is ensured and nobody is put through any sort of inconvenience.
Use Mobile phone Anti jammer...if a jammer is fit in your car
Simple that
best way is it to make more set of cctv survilience and civil police to catch the voilating person.
that's new rule use of jamming cellphone one day might trouble who are in need of help.
Instead devices can be installed in the vehicles, to keep cell phones.
Much like when a alarm is activated when a passenger is not wearing seat belt..
Mobile holding device should trigger a alarm when vehicle is in motion & mobile is not in its place ...
Improvement should come from within. People will always find new ways to bypass. Besides stationary vehicles should be able to make and receive calls as sometimes it may be an emergency at home etc. Several factors should be taken into account before applying blanket bans. The jammers should activate only when the vehicle is in motion as it not advisable even for passengers to talk on mobile in a moving vehicle.
change the minds and the brains of the people before you change the cars specs.
The principle is excellent, and much needed in a region where drivers blatantly ignore not only the law but the safety of themselves and, more critically, innocent others that suffer because of their lawlessness. The question is, why do authorities not cancel licences due to illegal phone use rather than wait for the accident to happen?
However, if implemented, the jamming should be limited to the driver because practically there are times where passengers need to and can communicate externally while the vehicle is in motion. For example, looking for directions (where a passenger is a navigator) or in an emergency. Leisure use bu passengers should also be considered as reasonable.
I do not know if targeted (driver only) jamming is technically possible, but a total vehicle jamming does not make practical sense. As usual the GCC goes from zero to 100 when it creates new laws.
But what about if passenger is using his mobile phone? It is not a good idea. Put some cameras around city, and a big big fine for using mobile phone while driving and that will solve all problems.
