Just how Hot is it?

I know Qatar has a super-hot climate. I've seen the average highs and lows listed on weather.com. But I've also been told that Qatar is humid despite being a desert with sandstorms. Well, I know it's near the water, but I still don't get how it can be very humid with so little rainfall. Could anyone explain this to me? I'm wondering how the heat and humidity of Qatar compare to a hot/humid climate like Houston, Texas? Is the Qatar heat even more unbearable than Houston's? Do many people get heatstroke in Qatar or does everyone just stay indoors most of the year? If so, doesn't that feel confining?

Meteorological information about Qatar is best obtained from the UK. Sorry, but if you want the weather for the next few days, you'll have to go to BBC weather and their five-day forecasts. For tidal predictions, go to http://easytide.ukho.gov.uk/EasyTide/EasyTide/SelectPort.aspx

The local met website (thanks, bbb8) is an improvement on the earlier service, mind you. I once spent nearly an hour on the phone ringing the met office, harbour authority, coastguard etc and came away with the impression that no-one knew, or was even faintly inquisitive about, the next day's weather and tides. Even a same-day forecast is an advance on the previous service.

(any meteorologists here??? dont think there are any in doha)

haha of course we have meteorologists here laudgi, we also have a meteorology department, they also have a great website with alot of information on it http://www.qatarweather.net/

they have up to date information and forecast on it

i used to have problems breathing in here when i was a kid then i found out i had a bit asthma that got healed... dunno how don't ask... if you are not used to very high humidity and u stay out for 20 mins at summers you can feels that you're chokin, i believe it's very fine as you wouldn't be outside for more than 5 mins (usually) you might want to have a deodorant in your car if you sweat alot... i always have it with me in my schoolbag :p

Yes, it is very hot in summer. it goes up to 48 midday. Humidity goes to 95% afternoons. The weather is much worse in August and September!

But it's very beautiful from December to May.

Cheers! :D

Equin0x, might I ask where you found that picture? That brings back a lot of memories from a community I used to belong to:) Does the word Bria mean anything to you? Just checking. If this sounds cryptic just ignore it!

Houston is like a stroll in the park during spring [if you know what i mean]. The heat goes around even 120*F during the day time, but hey as long as you got the ACs turned on full, you'll be 'chill'.

Good saying comes to mind... well I modified it a little...

""if you can't take the heat , then get out of the GCC""

On serious note = don't worry about it, you will be alright...

All of your comments explain why the people at my husband's new job insist we come for a visit first before moving (even though we can't visit until a couple weeks before the move, which seems like a wasted trip to me). They said some people decline the job after experiencing the heat and want to make sure we can take the heat before we move.

I know everything's well air-conditioned, but what happens in the event of a power failure? Mass heatstrokes?

Imagine ferrin opening an oven door...That's the sensation you get when the airplane door opens and you first come in cotact with the weather.........a fush of hot,hot air....amazingly though people feel the heat more in other places then here.....your just not exposed to it that often...theirs no need .lili.

So hot that the sea water evaporates, hence the humidity ¨)

Weather here is worse than Houston, that's for sure. And it gets extremely humid in the summer, too. For the time being though it's just hot, and not very humid. We have 6 months of intense heat and 6 months of very pleasant weather. The heat season is May - October, and it gets more humid around August - September. You won't be able to spend much time outside in the summer, and everywhere you go will be airconditioned so chances are you'll feel more cold than hot. You tend to get used to it though :^)
