How Bad is the Water?
I read that you need to either boil the water or drink bottled water, otherwise you'll get sick. I also read you should either boil the milk or use powered milk with bottled water and should avoid uncooked vegetables and unpeeled fruits. Is this really necessary? How often do people get sick from the water, milk, or food in Doha? Is this why I need a vaccination for typhoid fever, hepatis A and B before coming?
I drink the tap water too I have never had any problem with this but it is possible that in areas where there is a lot of building going on some grime may get into the pipes.
The Qataris know very well how to clean the water - I know one who did his PHD in England for water so there are experts on the job here.
What really upset is a theme is the amount of water wasted by washing cars every day itwa very scarce commodity here and utterly wasted.
Well, we used to drink tap water with a built-in filter and it was great but then we stopped using it and we got to buy bottled water. My recommendation bottled water are MASAFI & EVIAN !
Cheers!
Doha tap water's perfectly OK, though it doesn't usually taste quite as nice as bottled water, especially in areas where the piping is old. I drank happily from the tap in the QAC compound but JBK water would not be sampled twice. When you get your own supply, suck it, as the saying goes, and see.
you get the muck everywhere if you filter off, not just in qatar :p you see that's what the filters are supposed to do ;) clean the water... i'm thinking of making these new filters with the big holes so anything can get trough and when people open and check it's all clean :D would that mean it's filtering the water very well? :)
We drank tap water when we originally arrived in Qatar but we filtered it first.
It was when we saw the muck that was filtered out that we decided never to drink it "neat". The candles on the old stone filter were absolutely full of slime.
I've been drinking Qatari tapwater for almost two years, and I haven't keeled over dead yet!
I will stock up on bottled water as soon as I arrive! (And probably not worry about the milk. I'm a big milk drinker, so I will look for a good brand.)
Do NOT eat teh tap water! ;p
Trust me, you'll be fine. There ARE people living here ya know. [;
My advice...Don't drink tap water.. always use bottled water...
Milk here is of highest quality, so don't worry about that...
Don't bother with all those websites just come over and have a look.

I can tell from your sarcasm that I have offended you. That was not my intention. I apologize.
The information I received was from what appears to be reputable sites. Many of them repeat the same info, and when I keep reading it, what am I to think other than it might be true? I'm not yet there to check it out myself so can only rely on what I read on the Internet. I ask the questions on this board to see if people living in Qatar agree with what I read. Because I don't want to accept what these websites say without also asking people who currently live there. But most of what I have read about Qatar and Doha has been very positive. Qatar sounds like a beautiful, wonderful place with very friendly people. Here are some of the websites which discuss food/water safety:

LOL yeah well the tents here in Qatar at times have satellite internet connection. You should check out those airconditioned ones the local people are so fond of. I've visited one a year ago or so, I was really impressed. It even had a biotoilet.
i actually remmeber many many years bak when i was doing th silly chatting online and the other person was amazed how i was talking to them cos every one in the middle east lived in a tent or a cave ... and they were serious ... oh and they amaerican ... surprise surprise
Ferrin.... I don't know who has been feeding you all this information, but they are doing a good job. Honestly, was there anything positive that you found out about Qatar in your search for information?
In case you want to ask about landmines, killer stray camels, shifting dunes, kidnappings and such like - no, we don't have that here, either. People live in the houses with indoor plumbing, too. Woo hoo!
i think u have read all this from the same people that told Iraq had WMDs.
Yes the water is not the best an d generally people do not drink it, i think largely because it is desalinated and hasnt got a good taste and so you have water fountains and the like.
Now about powdered milk... well done u must be seem to have almost outdone the makeup qn here .. NOOOO
tephoid fever in Doha .... did not know we were in The Sudan ... anyone here have i been reading the map wrong
dont forget to get a vaccine against sanity ...u may get that where ur here too ... Beware it is Highly COntagious
oh and hepatitis i thought every country needed to vaccine for that ... i might be wrong on that one ... maybe wrong pls tell me
