New Car purchase and registration - can someone clarify
I just recieved my residency permit and I have decided to buy a car. I picked out a Nissan Pathfinder. I went to the bank and got a loan - no problem. Everything has been signed and the appropriate paper work sent to the Nissan Dealership. I gave the salesman everything he asked for including a copy of my residency permit in the back of my passport and my permanent drivers license and letter of no objection from my sponsor. But now the salesman tells me he can not register the car because I must provide him with my ID card. Well my sponsor has been slow on providing the ID card but they assure me that my residence permit in the back of my passport should be enough to get the car registered and I have to agree because the bank accepted it and who ever issues permanent driver's licenses accepted it - so why isn't the salesman at Nissan? Does anyone have any insight? I am anxious to close the deal by August 15th because up until that point I will not have to pay the first year of insurance. This will save me quite a bit of money.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks !!
Do that! I know how it feels not to have a car here and the fact that you have done as much as you could with them and yet they are giving you a hard time! is not pleasant at all!
When you get the car drive safely! stick to the speed limit get yourself a hands free device for your mobile, so you can avoid penalties!
Every now and then check your car status on this site if you have any speeding fine!

Thanks for the support Mystica! I am going to talk to the manager this afternoon. I have been waiting for over a week to get the car registered. At this rate I will start making payments on a car that I don't have yet.
The problem is that I have signed all of the paper work on the loan including the checks. The car is ready and just waiting to be registered. I have to admit that the salesman has not been very polite and somewhat on the arrogant side as well.
I'm going to stop by after work and talk to him again and maybe the manager to see if there is something that can be done.
Thanks DaRuDe - I wish I could take you up on your offer!!!
What an idiot Salesman! He may not know with his attitude he can lose a costumer! Ask for the manager and if he stand for his Staff why waste your time with them? lots of good 4 wheel drive car showroom here that can give you a better service. after all it's not your lost it's theirs!

Why dont you go speak to the manager himself.
If they are not willing to do it without an ID card, then drop the vehicle and go buy some other brand.
Visa in your passport should be enough they should not demand for the RP ID. My husband bought me a new car last October under my name and I haven't got an RP yet. If Nissan is giving you a hard time to purchase a car why not go to another showroom? Suzuki did all the registration, Insurance etc. for me, It's in fact included in the deal. no fuss!

Thanks DaRuDe. The salesman has told me repeatedly that the RP on my passport is not good enough and now the Post Office has told me their system is down. I'm just not having any luck.
The RP is enough on ur passport you can just give them the copy of that RP. and ID tell them still underprocess at immigration. and for ur ID ur company HR is responsible.

Thank you.
Do you know the hours when the post-office is open?
Go to the Main Post Office on the Corniche with your RP and they will issue you with your ID Card in a matter of minutes.
Good Luck
