Stressing that the mode of messaging was safe and anonymous, the telecom service provider said more than 100,000 registered users were actively chatting through SMS chat in Qatar as well as Oman.
“Qtel will be connecting other GCC communities soon,†it said.
Qtel Chief Operating Officer Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim al-Thani said mobile chatting was a worldwide phenomenon and its popularity was due to its ease in connecting individuals and group to communities of common interests in a convenient and entertaining way.
To start chatting, customers should SMS the word “GO†to 2800 and follow the instructions to register their profile. After registration, they could start searching for their friends or join one of the public chat rooms.
