Improved Directions to Singing Dunes

Went out to the Singing Dunes last weekend. They just opened up the new Salwa road out near the US base, which changes the traffic pattern for getting to the Singing Dunes, making it much easier. Simply get on Salwa going out toward the US base. Salwa road out in that area is brand-new, eight lanes (4 in each direction) super highway. Take the exit for Messaieed (if you see exit 29, you've gone too far). Travel for about 15 KM, going through two roundabouts. Shortly after the second roundabout is a road on the right with a sign for Kharrarra, take that. There are a few nasty speed bumps, so take care. When you come to the fork in the road, take the left option. You will shortly come to the dunes. Unfortunately, the dunes were not singing for us, but I think there's too much humidity in the air.

NOTE: The petrol station mentioned in other postings near the US base does not exist any longer! It must have been demolished by construction for the Salwa road project. Do not use it as a landmark.
