sometimes to be indispensable.. you have to take the extra mile. take any work unconditionally without any qualms. but beware, everything has a limit.

just think of something reasonable.

being multi-tasker? the negative effect in the end is that all persons in the company will rely on you until such time that you cannot handle all the jobs by yourself alone and you need to delegate it.

Flirting with your boss is not a good idea either especially if you have the same sex unless he/she or you have different sexual preference (lol).

Still hardwork, honesty, and that burning love for your job counts for you to retain your job.

Just:

- Be multi-tasked

- Work extra hours

- Surrender 1/2 of your salary

- Waive your rights

- Don't complain

- Praise management

response To keep Happy and please your BOSS.....Generally this works (irrespective of gender, nationality or religion), seen in past.

Certain people (me an example) find it really difficult, it doesn't go with my personality, being outspoken and bold.

The problem is that in the current economic climate, no one is really indispensible..

A very dear friend in The UK, who has vast experiece in his field got laid off last week without notice..

I just hope I don’t sound gloomy! but a couple of my friends, in several countries, were laid off and they feel miserable. Some already have found a job, some are still searching.

Let's hope for and offer the best we have.

I agree with SMOKE and PA regarding multi-tasking, I was being paid as a designer but I know how to operate CTP (Computer to Plate) processing, & I do not present my self to operate since there is an operator but it's an advantage for me when that operator is out, my boss is always calling me to operate the machine, in that way I make my self indispensable. with rarest qualification with high demand in market such as 'Hackers' to work for IT security.

When said multi tasking doesn't mean picking up others job to make others unemployed but during crisis time; you could be utilised by management to fit you in other roles when your unit is not required.

such as downturn in the market a multi skilled relationship manager can act as Business strategist or business planner.

The original post is about "financial crisis and job cutting".

Employees are laid off against their well. There’re bigger corporate plans to downsize staff and cut budget. Staff cannot help with that, no matter how productive they are.

No one is indispensable... my logic is if you wanna keep your job then work hard and prove yourself... having said that if you have been slacking off for the last 10 years and now wanna keep your job you may have a bit of a job trying to keep your job...

I dont believe in sucking up to anyone to keep my job. This is what i can do and this is what u are paying me to do. If according to VB here i start to take up other people's job, multi task proving that i'm better than the other 10 people who are hired, do u think the boss will fire those 10 people, keep me to do their work and pay me their salary? I dont think so?

So my advice is just do what you were hired to do coz if they have to let u go then there is nothing u can do about it.
