i got an offered from qatar and just wondering because employer going to bond me for a 2 year of period.
So i am wondering once i join the company will they keep my passport ? i am canadian citizen and going for professional IT jobs..
What would be the case if i do have an emergency.
I do not believe the offer u got it from a reputed company here in Q....If so they won't furnish this kinda medieval rules and regulations. I am working for a company here, which gives all the facilities and a reasonable salary + the PP is with me.
Currently almost all employees in Qatar require sponsorship. Employees are not allowed to work for anyone other than their sponsor even on a part-time basis. In practice this rule is often broken, although doing so is sufficient grounds for cancelling a work permit.
Employees cannot normally transfer sponsorship unless they have worked for their employer for two years. They will also need a clearance letter from their sponsor in order to do so. A sponsor can ban a departing employee from returning to the country for two years.
Sponsors do not have the right to keep the passports of their employees except to perform official business, unless it has been agreed in writing between both employee and employer.
There is 5000 QAR fine to sponsor, who hold/retain the passport of employee after legal/Resident permit processing is done.
Employees who are sponsored can in turn sponsor their own families. Fathers can sponsor their sons as long as they are under the age of 25 and are students, and can sponsor their daughters until they marry.
Workers can not leave the country without an exit permit, although minors and wives may do so.
After a residence permit is canceled, an employee can not return to the country for two years, even as a tourist.
As far as on the contract they wrote it, if i leave the company so i have to pay around 40k qtr.which i dont understand something and i never see something like not all over in north america's..
Passport keep i heared it from my other buddies they usually kept so thank for your clarification.

normally this is not practice here
They can't legally keep your passport and most probably won't do it.
You can't exit the country without their permission anyway.
