Sisha smoking in Souq Wakif

Martinnis
By Martinnis

Hi fellow QL members!

I was wondering, about sisha smoking.

When me and my friend where in the souq Wakif we ordered a Sisha each, we smoked this for several hours (too much probably) With mixed flavours.

Is there tobacco in the sisha they use in the souq? We have both quit smoking, so this kinda got me a little worried after we had smoked. I was under the impression that we were smoking the herbal sisha, which from my understanding is nicotine free.

We never asked for a herbal sisha, we just said "sisha with mixed flavours".

So maybe a stupid question, but did we get the tobacco kind?

Please be kind and help me clear up this confusing matter.

Have a nice night everyone. :)

Maybe I am talking about something else. I bought some herbal shisha when I was in Turkey last year to go with the Shisha pipe I bought and it wasn't very nice at all! I should have got the proper stuff, I was just trying to be healthier!

ben_130 why? it is the same taste as the nicotine one, but without nicotine. unless u'r refering to shisha AJAMI the original shisha; in that case i totally agree.

there is a proper way to smoke shisha:

u have to change the position of the charcoil on the shisha avery 5 to 8 min; if not, the nicotine under it will burn and becomes tar.

Supercool- I dont drink coffee and i always had dinner before I get a shisha, I dont smoke ciggy (no, i do, but very very rare). So probably i just dont know the proper way how to smoke it. is there a proper way anyways how to smoke shisha? or you just inhale and exhale it (which i do) . ;)

@damselindistress

You get dizzy for two reasons...the air which u inhale through the shisha has less oxygen and more Carbon Monoxide than normal breathing air which makes ur brain starve for oxyen....another cause is that the Nicotine u inhale from shisha lowers ur blood pressure which also means less oxygen flowing to the brain...so u get dizzy

in any case u build stamina with time but to avoid that side effect dont smoke on an empty stomach with with coffee....and try to not inhale as many times back to back without a few seconds passing by, leave a gap in between where u inhale normal air. Note that around shisha places the air quality is lower than normal to begin with so u need at least 15-20 seconds in between puffs

lastly water....keep sipping water and try to avoid caffeine...and ur all set

@UKEngQatar- must be the reason why i get dizzy whenever i smoke Shisha... LoL

I am not fond of shisha, though its just good to have it once in a while with friends.

@fromuk2here

Who told u that smoking cigarette is not haram! It is in fact agreed upon by all scholar...it IS haram.

as u stated, in Islam anything which is harmful to ur body is haram especially if it can cause death...just cuz u can buy 'em doesn't mean they r not haram

I believe ; when someone quit smoking, then why to look for an alternatives….. an act which force you to think about whether its right or wrong …. I think shouldn’t be attempted. There are number of other activities which can give a pleasure, apart from smoking cigg. Or shisha.

As an avid Shisha smoker for many years myself I have done my research over the years.....YES shisha does have nicotine and LOTS of it....but a clean shisha has ZERO% Tar which is the black stuff that gets deposited in ur lungs...In other words it could be habit forming if ur the "addictive" type "although it hasn't for me" but it's no where near as harmful to ur body as a cigarette can be "IF AND ONLY IF" u do it the right way

Many ppl don’t know much about shisha smoking and they do their body harm without noticing

the right way would be....[ONE] Do not use dead charcoal with is not longer burning, and ask for charcoal immediately...do not puff while the charcoal is dead....also don’t smoke with charcoal that hasn't gotten wet, u can usually recognize washed up charcoal cuz it goes out very quickly and it stays mostly black even when let, I recommend something called "coconut Charcoal" it comes in cubes and it's much cleaner and lasts longer....most places have them on request, they don’t give out as much smoke but they r much healthier.....oh and of course don’t use too much charcoal

[TWO] Yes the shisha does go bad after a while so u cant smoke it for hours on end, many ppl keep smoking as long as they can get smoke which is bad....u see the initial smoke u get from shisha is actually mostly glycerin so it's not "real" smoke but once the shisha head is burnt through u start actually inhaling burning smoking and deposits from the charcoal itself....best rule is to smoke each shisha head for no longer than an hour, if u crave more smoking, ask for a head replacement and puff away, no problem. Smoking three heads while replacing every hours is not as harmful as smoking one head for three.

[THREE] This one is kindda out of ur hand if ur smoking at a public place, always smoke a clean shisha with a clean hose....shisha accumulates deposits which after one or two smokes r not enough to affect u but if the shisha has been smoked by many ppl with different habits for many hours if will have a lot of deposits "aside from the flavor difference u can notice it by the shisha being very harsh to inhale or if u have to inhale hard"....if u do it at home u can of course clean the shisha urself but in public u may either get to ur smoking joint outside busy hours cuz they usually don’t have time to wash the shishas then or just test the place and try to pick a favorite spot and stick with it...tipping the shisha guys ALWAYS helps in getting a good shisha.....a clean shisha usually feels light and u don’t have to inhale as hard

By the way there r herbal healthy shishas but they are not available in Qatar and they don’t taste nearly as good....I know this is a lot to read but hope this helps

Shisha has tobacco but in very less percentage......so don't worry.....but as u said u have quit smoking, den why u try all dis stuff.....smoking shisha will increase your urge to start smoking again.....finally its your decision.....all the best...
