cigarette smoking inside the malls

First of all I join the whole community in mourning for those who perished in the Villagio mall fire yesterday.

I hope that this incident will also take a look at the supposedly no smoking policy inside the malls. Who knows, maybe those alarms are not functioning because they had been turned off because they could not impose the no smoking policy inside the mall.

Smoking inside the malls should not be seen just as a health but also as a safety issue.

lack of intelligence - people smoking next to kids or inside malls or elsewhere. It is actually not lack but NOT intelligence at all

By you logic next step will be smoking inside the planes???

Well thats certainly one perspective - however until an official enquiry delivers its conclusions concerning the origins of the fire, it would be ludicrous and show a gross lack of intelligece to rule it out no??

Your other more sanguine comments about the mall itself are well made.

To blame smoking for this tragedy is more than ludicrous it shows a lack of intellegence. The mall was poorly designed with inadequate fire exits, and allowing a licensed facility for children to be placed without a firedoor to the street shows gross if not criminal negligance on the part of the owners of the mall.

Yeah good luck with that Marco - gimmee a shout next time you are in the position to exercise your new found bravado - I will ride shotgun for you.

Security - seems that the JD for security comprises "Ensure NO Bachelors are in the Malls on a Family Day" - thats it.

Security was about as effective as the ineffective sprinkler system yesterday. First out of the doors yesterday I heard.

I used to see people smoking in the cafe just across from the nursery in Villagio every time I walked past, not to mention people smoking at Starbucks just as regularly.

Despite the "Emiri Decrees" forbidding smoking, some people honestly believe that such laws don't apply to them.

Woa... try to tell qatari to stop smoking.... and what poor indian security can do? right - nothing... It is sad, but nothing we, guests, can do. I guess, i just have to be more carefull about things around me and my family...

That's a good idea, Marco. But depending on the nationality and the position of the "smoker" you might risk deportation!

Malls are considered as no smoking public areas but I don't understand how the Authorities are allowing the restaurant customers to smoke!

From now on every time I see a local smoking inside the mall I’m gonna call the security

it does not a impactful harm as fire hazard, but a real health hazard.

there is need for a real fire safety inspection system

Let's face it: it's THEIR country, and they run it as THEY like. Even if there are laws, THEY ignore them. But WE are only guests. So, accept it as it is or leave.

Now we can't even smoke inside?

They cannot impose the no-speeding policy outside the malls either! Many cameras are actually switched off.
