i did before many times, and it would be cheaper to import than buying from here, and the condition of the car would be way better than here, and you would use it for at least one year for free and sell it for what you buy it for
value of cars varies between here and there at least 2000 dollars up to 5000 dollars cheaper
call me i will help you and customs always at 5% of the value of the car in qatar, not the value you buy it from there and its from 2500 qr to 5000 qr depending on the value in qatar market, plus clearing fees 500 qr, plus inspection, registration, and insurance , and still yet you would get a very sweet deal than here
If ur importing the any car from US before any thing please make sure that that it has A/C compressor made for Gulf climate as i have seen many cars in UAE where car's windows are open in summer as they were imported from US and A/C could not meet the cooling requirments of Gulf's hot climate.
I think the question posed was about the cost and duty associated with importing a car from the US, and not somebody's opinion whether to do it.
I am not sure of the exact cost, but so many people do it that it must be worth it in certain cases. Especially that local dealers are 2-3 times more expensive than in the US, particularly if you can buy a car from an auction. Just remember that it has to be less than 5 years old or it won't be let in.
It would help if a similar model existed here so you can get replacement parts easily. However, since local dealers and parts shops inflate their prices 100s of percent over internet and US prices, it may make sense to have your parts shipped here anyway. I already do that as much as possible as car parts are 2-3 times cheaper in the UAE or on line than here.
This is the land of SUVs, bringing your SUV to Qatar would be the equivilent to bringing your own ants to a picnic. Forget this idea, unless you just have an unusual attachment to that vehicle. SUVs are plentiful and cheap. All makes and models, even a few not available in the US. The shipping costs and import taxes alone make this totally absurd to even consider, not to mention the abuse vehicles take in every day driving situations, Parts for US Spec vehicles are not easy to get and more shipping and customs charges will apply when trying to get them. Don't do it.
