Im planning to import a car to Qatar, its a covette z06 supercharged, 2002 model. Please let me know what is the procedure. I have already spoken to the dealer and they are ready to ship it to Qatar, but once it comes here, what is the next step?????
Only cars that are 5 years old or less are allowed to be imported to Doha. To do this you would need complete documentations for your car, then the duty would be around 5% plus customs tariff rates upon arrival at Doha Port. You would also need a clearing guy to do this.
The majority of people have hit the nail on the head,ie by the time you pay for shipping and customs, would you not be better off simply purchasing a local vehicle.. I have a BMW 323I in Australia, after all the excise and tax I paid on it over there, I would be foolish to want to import it here ( as it is right hand drive anyway), given the excellent price of vehicles locally. If you are a collector, and only here for a few years, I would suggest garaging it over in your home land, and enjoy it when you return there...
WHOA....just re-read your question...you can't ship the car over anyway. No car that is over 5 years old is allowed to be shipped into Qatar, period, the end, and no exceptions.
after it arrives in Doha, you will be charged taxes on a percentage of the total cost of the new car. Have you looked into how much it actually will cost? Reason I am asking is that i purchased a brand new BMW sports car to ship from the States. THEN found out that shipping it would cost me around $15,000. So it is in my garage in the states and i bought a FJ Cruiser here.
