Aramex Shop and Ship Increase Rates

ahmad
By ahmad

For anyone shopping from Amazon, you'll now have this increase plus New York tax to add to your bill.

Thank you for using our SHOP&SHIP service. Our aim is to continuously enhance your shopping experience with us.

Aramex has found it necessary to increase the SHOP&SHIP rates to offset the increase in fuel price and operating costs. Effective July 1st 2008, our new rates will be as follows:

  • First ½ Kg 39 QR
  • Each additional ½ Kg 31 QR

We appreciate your understanding as this situation is completely outside the scope of our direct control since fuel represents a significant variable cost in the provision of transportation services.

You can find more detail on shopping online in Qatar here.

I agree about the prices! Well, our economy has to develop after all. I want to start my own business but it's very difficult. I need to save money but since I spend it on stuff like V8 races I guess I'm not going to do that soon! What a cruel world we live in! I'm kidding, the world is not cruel, the world is fun!

I heard from a friend that you dont accept liquid items such as pefumes and lotions. Is it true? My wife is planning to order a couple of items which we cannot find here in Doha.

Thanks

A bit of a rant re: Shop n Ship. It is a necessity for my sanity sake. But I'm VERY disappointed with their services. When I was there recently to collect my items, I did not receive a receipt after making my payment. I had over 15 items to collect and there were a few which I didn't receive even though I received a text message saying they're ready for collection. So I now have to make a return trip. Argh, how exasperating!

Also, Why do we have to collect our items when their customers in Dubai, Jordan etc get theirs delivered to their doorstep? We pay the same amount for delivery, don't we? It just doesn't make any sense. Truly irks me! They would get a lot more business if they'd offer door to door delivery to their Doha customers.

I'd love it if their rep could response to this. Doubt it but worth a shot eh?

Amazon has added taxes to purchases worldwide. If the item ships from Amazon itself, not another vendor listing on Amazon, the tax will apply. Other vendors may or may not charge tax.

befoer i was one of the best customer for Aramex in the shop & Ship services but now i have moved to DHL EasyShop, and the reason is when my staff came by Aramex no body will inform me about them and i have to call to follow up + Transit time is more than one week + and this the main issue is i have to wait more than 1 hour just to receive my shipment. but now with DHL i have full visibility on my shipments i even can conciledate so many shipment on one shipment and give the order to move it as one shipment, it will not take more than 5 min to collect my staff,

DHL EasyShop service is much much faster than Aramex Shop n Ship. Lifetime Regisrtration fee is QAR 100 and first 0.5kg is Qr 59 and each additional 0.5kg is QR 30. They also have 'flexiship' option to consolidate your online purchases upto 30 days free. which means you can purchase things from different vendors, then consilidate and bring back to Doha to reduce your shipping rates. If you choose 'autoship' option as soon as your vendor deliver your package to your DHL P O box address in USA, DHL will ship your item on express mode to Qatar within 2-3 days. You must try and feel the difference. If you wish login to http://www.borderlinx.com/dhl/qa/en/index.html

If the company has a retail outlet in the state to which your itme will be shipped sales tax will be added, if not then not. You are right, I was just responding to your comment that you didn't know how the tax was calculated. You are way ahead of me.

How to by-pass NY sales tax?

A practical example:

Went shopping on Amazon for the EVGA X58 motherboard and found this:

- 299.99$ Sold by Amazon.com ................free shipping (Lifetime Warranty)

- 299.99$ Sold by TD through Amazon + 11.14$ shipping (Lifetime Warranty)

- 269.99$ Sold by TD through Amazon + 11.14$ shipping (2 years Warranty)

Common sense would tell that Amazon has the best offer, cause I have to pay this stupid NY sales tax for each board...

Wrong!

Being curious, I added the board sold by TD to my Amazon cart and went through the payment process up to the final checkout, and discovered that items sold by TD are not subject to sales taxes in NY,simply because TD has warehouses in this state.

This fact is true for other Amazon storefronts like ANTonline,...

At the end,I purchased the board with limited warranty and gained almost 50$.

(I don't think I will keep it for more than 2 years...)

Next time I will not get lured by Amazon 2 days free shipping, and will double check other sellers offers prior to final purchase.

While shopping on Amazon, always have a look on the right upper corner ,"more buying choices" section just below the "Add to cart" button.

Amazon is still a convenient way to shop IT stuff for us gulf residents as our CC's are generally accepted.

I know this is far away from the transistor invention, but it's not so obvious.

Hope it will help some of us.

Dawestsides, there is 8% tax in New York State, that's where your $16 came from on a $196 shipment.

no Bleu and dawestsides,,,, i dont work for DHL nor recommending them, read my previous post i have criticized the DHL service too for non customer service and support.. and thats why i included the note in my above post that i heard from a Aramex customer and not my views, neither claim it to be true.....

i also mentioned it takes one day at the mailbox for the item to be manifested (even wrongly manifested once).... was just helping Dawestsides to know more on this thats it, its upto u to choose the service.

By shyams• 21 Mar 2009 12:32

in the forum i read there were huge delays in aramex service and also the strategy of Aramex is different. though the shipment reaches the mail box in US. then wait till enough items are collected so as to ship all at one time (just heard from a customer, i am not sure of this nor had dealt with aramex). in DHL once the item reaches the mail box its shipped next day and third day its in qatar... .Shyams

DHL sent me an email about their service, they were implying that this is something NEW. I've been using Aramex for more than 2 years.

A simple visit to their webpage shows that they're more expensive than Aramex.

Anybody who needs this kind of service is already using Aramex, and wouldn't switch.

They are charging 59QR/lb...

39QR with Aramex.

Any item shipped to New York State is concerned by this new tax,so all Aramex shop&ship service users, you have to know this.

I purchased some computer components for a total of 193$, and while going through the payment process,I forgot to check if any extra dollars had been deducted from my credit card,as I used to do.I am an Amazon prime customer, shipping is free, but they added 16$ as sales tax to the price. So I came back to the website help section and found this:

"Effective June 1, 2008, Amazon.com LLC will begin collecting sales tax on items shipped to destinations within the State of New York as New York has enacted a new law requiring out-of-state sellers to collect and remit sales tax based on advertising. Amazon has filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of this provision. However, as required by the law, we must still begin collecting New York sales tax beginning on that date".

The method used to calculate this tax is not so clear...

in general, you're still saving money up to the 15-17 pound range, afterwhich is makes more sense to ship things directly to you via dhl/fedex/..etc

Fuel prices? or is it the huge villa they just rented?

By dawestsides• 26 Jun 2008 19:38
dawestsides

I recently started using Aramex Shop & ship service, mainly for items purchased on Amazon.com as a prime customer,so far everything is ok,fast delivery...

Even with this increase S&S cost remains attractive,so I'll keep using it,it's better than to purchase here in Doha, especially computer and electronics products!

This will hurt the online shoppers, I am a regular user of this service, looks like I have to think twice before buying online. When and if the fuel prices go down I wonder if Aramex will revert the increased price.
