Credit/debit cards?

Stephanie_82
By Stephanie_82

Here in the US, I use my debit card for everything from gasoline to groceries. I assume I will be able to continue this in Doha, but I'm just wondering if I will need to start carrying cash with me when I shop?

Thanks!!

notfromhere - The same thing happened to me in Jamaica and I didn't have enough cash. Talk about embarrassing! Thanks for the tip. I definitely don't make it a habit of carrying that much cash around over here, but it looks like I should over there just in case.

The debit cards here are called ATM cards. They work in stores as well as any bank ATM cash machine. And there are lots of those around.

Stephanie, I don't use my debit card nearly as much here as in the US.

The other day I was at MegaMart, racked up QR700 worth of groceries, tried to pay with my debit card, but the whole system was down. Luckily I had enough cash with me. I think I'm just gonna stick mostly with cash for a while.

I thought I saw someone using their card for gas recently...maybe at Al Waab?

Especially DaRude, Smoke, and Khanan...step aside please, make way...KSA is in DA HOUSE!!!

Alright Stephanie, first of all, welcome aboard QL and welcome to Doha (whenever that happens though)...

Alriht now to your question, well as answered by a user just a while ago, you could use your Debit Cards or Credit Cards for almost anything and everything depending on the size of the store that you are getting your service from, in some gas stations, you have facilities to be using cards, but not most of them cos its pretty cheap here,

Having said that, in most of the other shops, if the shops are small like say in your friendly neighbourhood things, then naa no card, but if its a major store, then yes ofcourse, and that same logic applies to the majority...

cheers...!!!

Most of the larger places take debit/credit. Not gas stations though. Usually there are ATM machines at the gas station. No cash back with debit at the grocery or anything.

Take advantage of the bank's offers on credit cards.

I took CB bank card and got 20,000 Qmiles and use it for most regular purchases as 1 Qmile for QR4 spent soon adds up.

It is so cheap to fill up your gas guzzler here that you don't need a debit card.

Just call me Tigasin. That's what I'm talking about

I'm also using my debit card here whenever I go shopping... but for gas... i don't think you can use it... haven't seen any gas station using eftpos...so better to bring some cash just in case you can't use your card.

HappY and In Love!
