Dishonest shop in Wathan Mall, Rayyan

Dear friends

I'm in Doha since February 2009. Shops and sellers here are 99.9% good and honest.

But:

Few weeks ago new Wathan Mall opened in Al Rayyan, behind Equestrian Club.

On the ground floor there is big supermarket. About 10 days ago I went there to see what they have. It is conveniently close to my house.

Brought just few hundred riyal to buy basic necessities. Collected several things into my cart, read prices and calculated how much to pay on exit.

Unfortunately, in cashier computer prices are different. Higher. I had enough to pay, but didn't like to be deceived (manipulated) and just said "Thank you, good night" and left everything there.

Decided to forget about it and never go there again.

Today neighbor's kid told me he was there with two other friends to buy few cookies. He took 8 "tiffany" sandwich cookies and one Nadeccino. 8 x 1 + 2 = 10.

Cashier counted cookies 1.50 instead of 1 and all together was 14 and not 10 riyals.

"I was lucky" he said "that friends had those 4 riyals more to give me to pay."

"YOU were lucky? THEY were lucky to squeeze more money from all of you! Those cookies ARE 1 riyal EVERYWHERE! Not 1.50!"

He's a good kid and I felt sorry. I share part of guilt because I didn't warn him.

So, now I warn all of you. I don't need to go to see the name of the supermarket. It is the only big one on the ground floor there.

Don't let them slap you in the face saying "you are stupid". They count on your pride. When you come to cashier and see higher prices you will still pay because you want to show that "you have lot of money and you don't care". That way their dishonesty will be supported and they will survive easier than honest ones around.

Do you want good and honest shops that you have now?

Or you want traders here to evolve into liars and thieves?

Depends on you. Shops where you buy will stay in business.

Choose wisely which ones you want.

... but I don't plan to make any complaints. I just wanted you to know in advance and be ready BEFORE thing happens. That's all.  You are mostly adults, able to make your own decisions.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I agree that Wathan Mall is good. I was just warning people about ONE particular shop inside.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BTW: tags contain product name and price, but are not sticked to merchandise. They are on front faces of shelves and don't go with product to cashier.Person working on POS (cashier computer) just inputs bar codes and has no influence on price you pay. Looked like normal, honest worker to me.It is the price in the computer that is most of the time higher than on misleading tags on shelves. And bigger than elsewhere. That's why I said it's policy of the shop.

It's quite simple, what counts is what the price tag says. IF the cashier charges more, than they are wrong and you need to talk to the management or supervisor. If the shop just charges more than other shops, you have the choice to shop in other shops. I actually really like Al Wathan mall. It is clean, quiet and their bakery is the best in Qatar. IMHO
