Fire at LULU hyper...
A MINOR fire that broke out at the LuLu Hypermarket yesterday evening was soon put out. No one was injured.
A source said the fire broke out at around 6.40pm in the chimney of the bakery on the ground floor.
An official of the hypermarket attributed the fire to a short circuit.
“Within 10 minutes the situation was brought under control and the market reopened for customers after 30 minutes. We are well-equipped to deal with any such situation,” he said.
“We decided to shut down the complex for some time to ensure the safety of our customers,” the official said.
While shoppers inside the market were asked to leave, those who wanted to enter were turned away by security personnel.
The blaze was extinguished even before the arrival of two fire engines from the Civil Defence department.
“We came just to do some cooling work and to make sure that the place is safe. It seems to be a short circuit in the supply to the fans of the bakery,” a member of the firefighting team told Gulf Times.
Shame about the wiring...
