Yesterday i went to villagio and noticed that Dresses for FAT people is so bad and so shapless that if they wear they'll look more fat and it gives a look of old fashioned texture and style. why like this???

Wild child,

I was with a friend in Japan who was trying to buy shoes, but in the entire country, there was not a single shop that would sell shoes for her GIANT feet.

She was a size 7.

On the upside, Rainbow, at least you know all the other larger women are wearing sacks and crappy clothes too, so it's not as though you are standing out in the crowd.

But seriously.. get an abaya... you'll never worry about your appearance ever again :p

No, the end of the story is unless you have the figure of a pre pubescent androgenous female, there will never be off the rack clothes to fit!!

I don't really think that many men really give two hoots about most women. Either they are smoking hot and real head turners, or they are just normal and men don't really notice.

It's women that put the pressure on one another to look good, in my opinion.

Why can't people just be happy and healthy?

And in any case, it's unlikely that you'll find a dress for anyone that is a perfect fit when it comes off the rack. You'll need to get it taken in/out around your waist, hips, bust, etc. Try getting something made to measure. Then you can chose the color, design and it will be a flattering fit.

Actually, Marilyn Monroe was closer to a size 12 in today's sizes - She had a small waist and a classic hour-glass figure. Sizes have changed over the years....

I'll second you on your comment about not taking into account for bigger bust sizes to hips or hips to bust, there is the other length as well i tend to find even if they do allow for my assets they usually don't have the length...

Sorry supernurse, the second cmoment wasn't for you, it was for Loulsy.

Rainbow, I know what you're trying to say, which is that you want to look and feel great in a dress that suits your body size. I get that. It's just that it seems to me that the more you worry about how good you look, the worse you will feel about yourself.

That's the whole point of the beauty business - you have to keep looking for that new dress or new shoes or new handbag to feel hot, because apparently just being happy with your body makes you a failure or something.

The more you think and worry about your appearance, the more unhappy you will be with it.

can make most people look a better shape. I find 'off the peg' clothes (especially dresses) a nightmare to find to fit me well. I don't get any clothes made, by the way, but I end up having to buy separates.

Dresses in High Street stores are cut for an ideal figure i.e. no account taken for a gal's bust needing a larger size dress than her hips do and vice versa.

Shopping for clothes always depresses me and always has. That's why I have very few outfits!

also, the type of shops here (that cater for the women in a 8 year boys body) are a bit dodgy....I mean denim and lace on the same garment? DENIM and LACE???WTF??!!!

rami-leb, no one's talking about getting "a magical dress that will make a size 18 look slender and hot"...I have seen many plus sized women who look hotter and have tons more confidence than their "smaller" counter parts. If they feel comfortable in their skin, what's itching you?

Yes, a dress can hide some sins, sure. But if you really want to hide sins, buy an abaya.

This is just like an episode of Oprah or Tyra or something. Larger women with body image issues being told that if they wear tights with vertical stripes, it's slimming, or if they wear black, it's slimming, or if they avoid loose fitting clothes, it's slimming.

All it does is re-inforce in their minds the idea that it's good to look slim.

If you want to maintain your current size, then either be prepared to keep feeling like you are too fat and you don't look good (unlike the girls on Tyra's makeover show) or accept your size and enjoy life.

Otherwise, the only other option is to loose some weight. And if it were that easy you would have done it already.

There's only so much a dress can hide.

Isn't it a bit unrealistic to think that somewhere out there is a magical dress that will make a size 18 look slender and hot?

The truth is that as long as you are fat, you will be fat. A dress can't change this. A dress won't make all your body image issues go away, and make you a beautiful, popular person. A dress is just some fabric that covers your body, it's not a miracle-worker.

If you want to look good, stop shopping and go to the gym.

Well there are a few stores in Forum but I donno.. I didint like then very much... Its more liek party wear n stuff like that but it would be nice if we could get normal clothes like shirts/trousers/jeans/t-shirts etc for plus sized people. Most of them just stick to salwar or saree or get tailored stuff...
