The sole IKEA Agent in the middle East is Al-Futaim. The reason Al futaim have failed to open a branch here is purely due to logistics. Unlike other furniture stores in Qatar, IKEA has a policy of accumulating all its items in one store( no backup stores in Industrial Area). Thus, Municipality never granted them approval for a Doha store.
Lucy comeon.. IKea is a huge success in Dubai, and do you think Qatar is more quality concerned than Dubai? lol never mate. Many things you get here is craps too
IKEA is not good enough for Qatar or is Qatar not good enough for Ikea?..let me work that one out. I spent a whole day in IKEA last time I was in Dubai..:)
They believe in one point only..Once they sold off something after that they dont want to keep any kind of after sales service type of thing in their showrooms.See before entering in a coutnry they have different opinions and initally they act to be very smart and later on when they get the sense that everything in ok they start behaving likeone.Ikea is famous for one of the most worst after sales service.May be they have a feel that they cant imply their cheap business gimmicks over here in Qatar that is why they are refraining themselves to be here.Trust me once they will star doing business here you will start seeing so many topics of complaints here on QL itself for sure..
is not here because, of yet, they haven't worked out a policy as to how staff can get round their 'one way system' fast enough to serve the landcrusiers out front beeping their horns.
Lucy, what a wonderful explanation ! I am amazed...here I was wondering why there was an Ikea store in each and every ME country except for Qatar...and there you are...giving me this extremely logical and clear explanation! You really made my evening.
I have been hearing about IKEA opening since 2005. So my guess now is not anytime soon. Especially when they say it is going to be in a mall near the Bahraini causeway! lol
Q: How many IKEA shop assistans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Sorry, we ran out of light bulb stock. We expect it to arrive early next month. We do have ladders though! You just go straight on, then left and then right.
Ikea is ok in India and othe Asian countries but it failed to perform in Singapore because the quality they give is 90% from China cheap rubber wood.If they will give anything duplicate in Qatar the ban they will get forever.Where in Middleeast the quality norms are high or even in world Ikea tries to save it skin from there...Trust me..They cant fool Qatar people so that is why they are refraining themselves coming here...

Isn't that a bank? Hmmm, Lucy......;)
how do you compare ICICI with IKEA? are you sane?
I think there must be some genuine reasons that they are not getting permissions to operate over here...

Yes last time we were in Dubai. we treated 10 people with the best of Swedish food for just under 250AED including the deserts.. Now beat that..:)
You don't need to publicly display your ignorance on a subject you have no idea about :-(
Come on people... Do you need an IKEA in Qatar ?
How many people would actually go to IKEA to buy and not for the food?
Do you want Nissan Tiidas loaded up with flat packs hurtling around Doha ?
The answer must be NO!

Isn't the point of Ikea that you assemble it yourself?
These people can't even get out of the car at the local corner shop, never mind put together a shelving unit!
The real reason why IKEA will not be allowed in Qatar
