Georgetown Library is indeed a life saver - the patron system was started to encourage the community to make use of the facilities - it's just not many people know about it!!

The staff are very friendly, they will order books - you can sit and watch DVDs, read mags (just not take these out) and they will send you email messages when your books are due back, and you can renew online also.

Just don't go and rush and take out all the books I like!! :)

Glad to know this is here! Yes, all, check out the link that fresh start so kindly posted - There's even a form available to become a Public Patron that you can download from the forms page. That and a refundable QR 50 deposit gets you a card.

Of course, their summer hours are exactly the hours in which I have no transportation. :-( However, it appears that this too shall pass and they will go back to extended hours (9-9, Sun-Thur) when the fall semester begins.

I wonder if any of the other universities do this?

Your words are like pure manna from heaven...

I'd posted about the Qatar Public Library here:

http://www.qatarliving.com/node/426520

But this news is excellent. Is it open to public? Can we actually borrow books? If that's the case, you're the bearer of glad thidings, my dear lady. I thank thee from the bottom of my heart!

I think it cost QR50 to join as a patron (refundable) and has quite good selection of fiction - hours during term time are excellent, and v friendly staff. At the moment it is closed on weekends - check out hours etc on their website:
