I forgot to mention this in my last post, but Salam is a huge rip off. It will cheaper to buy online and ship since you will be getting a camera body, lens (maybe one or two) and some sort of bag/carrying case I presume. Also once you get a little ahead in the photography world, you could start exploring lighting. Again I learned a lot from the internet and the best website I can give you is: http://strobist.blogspot.com/ . Start with the lighting 101 (only after you have mastered your DSLR's regular capabilities, otherwise you might be a little overwhelmed) and then work your way through the articles. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

I know this doesn't help much since every post on here has been alternating between Canon and Nikon, but here's my two cents. I enjoy photography greatly and have really gotten into it since the era of "relatively" cheap consumer DSLR's. I initially bought a Canon Rebel and was very pleased with it as a starter camera. As I began delving more in photography and buying more glass (i.e lenses) I decided to upgrade to a Canon 5D Mark II and I have been a happy camper every since. Remember to invest more in your lens that your body, it is what matters at the end of the day. Maybe this guide can help you a little: http://reviews.cnet.com/dslr-buying-guide/

I have also found that this website is really great for learners (90% of what I have learned about photography is from the internet, the rest 10% from friends and classes online):http://digital-photography-school.com/ .

go for the Nikon D3S, it's the Best Camera on the Market at the moment. I would think the body costs around 20 000 Rials in Salam Plaza. if you want the second best you go for the Nikon D700. Both Cameras are FX cameras, which is a must for a professional photographer.

Speak to some professional photographer. Most recommend buying a camera body with a separate lens. Also, Salaam Plaza is considered by many to be a rip-off. Get a paypal account with a virtual/prepaid credit card and buy online.

I may have to start a new thread for this, but where can I buy a film camera? Second hand is fine, or brand new. As long as it works. I checked out Salaam Plaza. No dice.

If you want a professional camera, buy a Canon Mark II (21 megapixel) or a Canon 1D Mark IV (16 megapixel), these cameras are top of the line, I don't know if the cameras are available in Salam but you can check the price in Amazon.

I would only recommend Nikon for begginers as it has many in built tutorials.

But for professional photography Canon Rebel T2i

is the best

Any Day & Any Time - NIKON !! I personally use a Nikon D90 !! The best camera with great features. Its very expensive in Doha, But it from States or Europe you get better deals.

Good Luck !

you can't go wrong. more lens choices than nikon. remember you are not buying just a camera but a system. camera bodies can be disposed of but lens investment can go further.
