Where are the hardware/building suppliers in Doha?
I would like to know the location of business that supply timber and a good selection of nails, screws, fixings, etc. Coming from the UK I am used to 'getting everything under one roof'. The poor selection of tools and fixings available at Carrefour is not suitable for big DIY jobs. The reason for my question is that I intend to build a raised decking area at the back of my villa.

Ahh... you have touched upon one of the great mysteries especially to the westerners here in Qatar. I have been here nearly 15 years and yet to walk comfortably into
a so-called hardware store and find reliable, consistent stock. Everytime I go I wish for the convenience of a Wal-Mart or Home Depot to browse through.

Go up C Ring frm airport. Turn right at first signal (Gulf Cinema). Cross small roundabout. The whole street from there is hardware.
For bigger stuff (timber etc) try Tadmur, further up C ring

Souq Haraj (pls. correct me if the spelling is wrong) in the Najma area there a lot of shops that deal with hardware/building materials and even glass repair/replacement.

it is extremely difficult to find anything, especially of value, in Qatar. You will find a wheel in one store, and the connector somewhere else. On top of that, you have to be especially careful not to buy something that will not fall apart in 2 weeks, or burn up on you.
The Industrial area for western tools and products, and some of the souqs for odds and ends. Frankly, fill up your duffle bag next time you are in the UK and bring it back loaded with essentials. Thats what we all have learned.
