Mariing itinanggi ni dating Armed Forces Chief of Staff Angelo Reyes ang alegasyon na tumanggap umano ito ng P50 milyong pabaon nang magretiro ito sa militar noong 2001.
“Waland send-off gift, wala ‘yon,” sagot ni Reyes matapos ang pagdinig kahapon ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hinggil sa plea bargaining agreement sa pagitan ng gobyerno at ni dating military comptroller Carlos Garcia.
Sa naturang pagdinig, ibinunyag ng surprise witnesses na si retired Lt. Col. George Rabusa sa pagdinig ng Senado na tumanggap umano si Reyes ng P50 milyon bilang pabaon o send-off money nang mag­retiro ito.
Si Rabusa ang dating budget officer ni Reyes noong siya pa ang hepe ng AFP habang si Garcia naman ang comptroller noong si Reyes ang nakaupong kalihim ng Department of National Defense (DND).
Bukod sa P50 milyong pabaon kay Reyes, ibinunyag din ni Rabusa na tumanggap umano ng karagdagang P5 milyon kada buwan si Reyes sa loob ng 20 buwan na naging hepe ito ng AFP.
Agad namang umalma si Reyes sa alegasyon ni Rabusa.
“Tanong kay Rabusa, noong ako chief of staff ako ba’y nagswapang, ako ba’y naging ganid, ako ba’y nanghihingi sa kanya?” tanong ni Reyes kay Rabusa.
Depensa pa ni Reyes, wala siyang nalalaman sa akusasyon ni Rabusa dahil hindi ito nag-demand ng kahit na ano noong hepe pa ito ng AFP.
“Ang tanong ko, nag-demand ba ako ng pera sa kanya (Rabusa) officially or unofficially sa kanya. George sabihin mo ang totoo,” pahayag ni Reyes sa pagdinig.
“Totoo pa wala kayong pakialam sa preparation and execution, pero merong kaming prini-prepare para sa inyo na tinatanggap naman po ninyo,” sagot naman ni Rabusa kay Reyes.
Agad naman hinarang ni Senador Antonio Trillanes ang ginawang pagtatanong ni Reyes kay Rabusa dahil wala naman umano ito sa posisyon para tanungin ito.
“You are not in the position to ask the witness. I believed this is the time for reckoning. Better find very good lawyers,” giit naman ni Trillanes.
Maaaring makasuhan ng plunder ang sinuman kung ang halaga ng nakurakot nila sa gobyerno ay P50 milyon o higit pa.
Sa paglabas ni Rabusa, sinabi nitong siya ang nagdala ng P50 milyong halaga kay Reyes noong nagretiro ito sa AFP.
“Puwede siyang makasuhan ng plunder diyan,” babala ni Senate President Pro-Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.
