About my experience with the postal service

I've mailed my husband an envelope on the 25th of November 2008 (LAST MONTH) and its the 17th of December now and he hasn't received it. I'm from Canada and I believe that the postal service is extremely poor in Qatar. I'm really worried right now and I hope that my mail isn't lost : (. I am glad to know that the service is slow there, since I do have some hope now after reading a few of your comments regarding slow postage on of the posts I found on qatarliving. I hope my mail isn't lost............... After this experience I will be getting a tracking number each time i mail ANYTHING to my husband..... I just hope that it gets there soon, its been more than 3 weeks now.......
I would greatly appreciate any of your comments if you guys can give me a bit more input on what to expect or when to expect my mail to arrive in Doha...

Thanks!

I purchased an item from ebay and they've sent supposed to be last year, around october to november. I went to post office in corniche and nobody can help me as my package was lost. How can I retrieve my mail????I'm afraid somebody got interested with it. is that possible in qpost?they steal mails or package?

Mine was by Air Cargo according to my sister. I just can't imagine if the US Postal Service will drop off all US countries, Asian and Middle East countries before going to it's destination. LOL!

Kenyaqueen

oct 15 and it arrived on december 11th

I don't think that any mail delivery is that effective, specially when it took almost three months to arrive.

The US postal SAM delivery takes four weeks by ocean. Probably your mail was delivered by a sailing ship.

i have a friend that is willing to deliver sticky postage notes for a fair price.

His prefer method of transport will be messenger pigeons.

It could be because it is so close to Christmas. I know that at the Canada Post offices, they have a sign saying that if you want your packages delivered by Christmas, they must be sent on certain dates locally and internationally.

yel_tiu, can you please help me too? My sister in California sent me a package since November 17. As of December 1, the package is already in New Jersey. It's Dec. 21 now, still no updates about it. I always check my company's PO BOX No. thru the website. I even check the US Postal Service Website for new updates, but none. Maybe you have other ways of checking from your system. :)

canada post is pretty good! we sent mail to my husbands family on oct 15 and it arrived on december 11th, I was worried too but it did get there when they said. but you sent yours towards the end of november. there may be some delay as this is the busy time of year. Also, I hope you packed it really good in a really good box

I am always excited to go to sleep! In anticipation of the new experience I will find awaiting me.

I was advised before I came here not to use QPOST for even unimportant mail like postcards, so I definitely wouldn't use it for anything important.

Hi sunshine181,

From my experience, this is an unusual case. QPost was revamped about 10 years ago and it has been pretty good since then. Of course, this is relative since I've lived in Doha all my life and I know how RIDICULOUS the service was before 1998. But it is better than postal services I've tried in other parts of Asia.

I send letters a few times a year from Doha to the Netherlands and the US, and I've sent one or two to Canada before, using express mail (NOT Mumtaz Post, which is courier package delivery). It costs around 4-6 riyals extra but it's worth it because the letters arrive at their destination within a week or so.

If you want faster package delivery through the post office, try the Mumtaz Post although I think it's kind of expensive. Check www.qatarposts.com for the rates to be sure. However, if you're sending any sensitive documents, special items, or anything that needs to arrive in 1-3 days, please use a different courier service like FedEx and the like.

Do test the express mail with your husband in Canada by sending him something light and unimportant. Then you can check how many days it takes for him to get your letter. I hope it works just as fast for you as it has for me! :)
