Barwa Bank Credit Card - Gold Monthly Fee
Hello Everyone,
So I have a gold credit card with Barwa Bank and as they advertise, it's a card with no annual fee. They have 2 payment terms 5% and 100%. However, they have a fixed monthly fee if we select the minimum payment option of 5% and the statement in the website reads as the link below....
https://www.barwabank.com/personal/credit-cards
"A fixed monthly fee will be charged if minimum payment option is selected. No fee is charged if monthly balance is paid in full"
So basically what happens is that if your credit limit on the card is 20k for an example and you use 10k the monthly bill will show up as QAR 500 min to be paid which is 5% of 10k. since I opted for the 5% payment term Barwa Bank charges me a fixed Separate monthly Fee of QAR 300 until the total of 10k has been paid. I didn't pick up on this until my credit balance started going - 300 on the card for around 3 months as I was letting the bank manage the 5% monthly minimum on auto deduct.
If you take 10 months to settle the full credit balance on your card apart from the 10k you owe you will rack up a +3k which is 300 x 10 months. Its an absolute rip off beautifully tucked away for people like me who don't go deep into bank terms.
Before applying when I asked the agent about this term he explained to me that as long as you pay the 5% remaining I will not be charged 300 monthly which is clearly not the case. The agent is no longer with the bank and I have no way to prove to the bank I was mislead. To be clear the terms are stated and can be easily misunderstood unless you run into this kind of an issue.
Is there anything which I could do by writing to Qatar Central Bank about this as I feel that it is unfair to be ripped off like this? I'm sure there are more of you facing this problem.
I just wrote this down so that I can share my experience with all the members of our Forum.
Stay Away from Credit Cards especially with Barwa Bank !!!!!!
Have a good day you'll........
