Basic salary vs allowances

Hi

What should be the basic to allowance split in salaries in Qatar? I asked for a QR22.5k salary but when they gave me the salary structure as follows: Basic - QR10,620, Housing - QR7,000, Mobile - QR1,500 and Car - QR3,380. Only 47.2% of my salary is Basic. Is this correct? How much of the total salary is normally Basic? What are the implications of having a lower basic salary?

Please help

Thanks

Huz

Thanks for the advice guys. I have now asked them to revise the basic to 60% of the total. Not sure if they will agree.

Totally agreed on the aforementioned posts. Being in HR, when we offer salary, we try to keep the basic upto 60% of the total salary. I think 60% is pretty much fair to the company as well as employee. Yes, for start performers, even it goes to 70-75%. You should negotiate with them to increase it but dont lose the offer :)

Best luck..

The basic salary will also affect your yearly increments and bonus, if any.

There are no rules for setting the basic salary and each company has its own system. The only implication I see in trying to keep the basic salary low is because it has an impact when the End of Service benefit is calculated. The calculation of End of Service benefit is based on the basic salary. You can judge this from the offer you have in hand. The company is giving you money, but it is in the form of Mobile allowance, Car allowance etc. It has kept this money away from the basic.
