Cant trust the pharmacist?

For the past couple of weeks, I have been experiencing what feels like "panic attacks" or anxiety. Not sure the reasons, but I approached the pharmacist at Center point and asked if there was some thing I could take to calm me? (It really isn't a nice feeling). He gave me some tablets, which cost 120QR. I took one the next day and felt WORSE! I was sick all day and my symptoms had gotten worse. I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest! The day after I was at Villagio and asked the pharmacist at Boots pharmacy. When I showed him what I had been given, he raised his eyebrows in shock and told me, he should have never given them to me. In fact they are only to be prescribed by a doctor. Can I go back to the pharmacy at Center point and demand my money back? As I am sitting with a box of tablets that are expensive and I cant take them. Or report him to the Ministry of Health? I feel he was just trying to make money off me. I trusted him for some advice and help. What would you do please? Throw them away and let it go?

mandi is right...

one dose of Faverine is not that responsive..

it will not gve u "great impact"...it takes weeks or even months to know its results.

btter to consult physicians...pharmacist has knowledge with drugs/medicines but

still u need proper diagnosis from physicians before taking medicines.

cat.inc - that was my mistake! Thinking they are like the pharmasists we have in SA. I didnt think it was so serious to see a doctor. Something I would get over soon. I do have the money to see a doctor btw.

Thanks chinita for the helpful info. I felt really bad after 1 tablet and couldn't move all day. So I didnt take any more, I was too scared to.

I will now consult a doctor and ask their opinion.

if i were u try to talk to the pharmacist first for a refund...

do not go to the Ministry of Health bcoz u have also mistakes

on the first place u should consult the doctors not pharmacist for major illnesses like this..

you told the pharmacist that u are suffering from "panic attacks" / anxiety, Faverine is an SSRI... some are giving this not only for OCD but also for anxiety..that's why that pharmacist gve it to u...in your case your system didn't give a positive response that's why it gets worst.

these anxiety medicines shouldn't be given to the patient without proper diagnosis which can only be given by a physician not a pharmacist... coz there are lot of things that causes anxiety.

You should not be asking a pharmacist to be prescribing you medication.

It is not like in SA where you can place truct in our pharmasist. They speak your language and understand your needs.

You cannot blame the pharmasist you know you had to go to a soctor first and most probably did not want to spend the extra money.

Hmm, luvox (or faverin) isn't primarily prescribed for anxiety. In fact, one of the negative side-effects is anxiety! But I doubt that your symptoms worsened because of one dose. Luvox takes up to two weeks to work.

medicines which are considered CONTROLLED are cough syrups which contain dextromethorphan, ANTIBIOTICs, Cortisones.... Faverin is an SSRI anti depressant... and its over the counter here...

Thank you everyone. The medicine he gave is called Faverine and it says its for "Major depressive disorder" and OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder)

How can he give me this, when I asked for something to calm me? I dont think I have either? Now I am stuck with a whole box of medicine I can do nothing with.

haas....where would it say "control medicine"?

LBP. go back and tell him what happened first and let him find solution, if he says no refund than tell him I'll report you to ministery of health.

so sorry for what you experienced!

I agree that anti-anxiety meds should be prescribed by a physician. Were you given Prozac? If so, the medication takes a week to ten days to be effective. If you'd seen a physician he/she would have advised you of that. It may not be that you got the wrong meds, it may be that you were not given good information.

Always go to a Doctor for prescribing a medicine that you have not used before..

Sue the idiot!!!! Report it to the ministry of health, or the police, whatever.

He could have killed you? You were lucky, what if the next suffers serious damage because of his incompetence?

Reporting the bugger = a good deed

go back and get a refund, tell them about what happened to you and if they don't give you back your money, tell them you will report it to the authorities
