Car tires expire?!
Hi everyone,
I was just told that vehicle tires here in Qatar "expire" and must be changed [for new ones] every three (3) years. Does anyone here know for a fact if it is the law that tires must be changed every 3 years here in Qatar?
It's interesting because recently I was researching this for my own information back home, and no were could I find that tires have an expiry date. In fact, officially from what I read (not in Qatar), tires do not have an official expiry date (like milk), however, some major car manufactures (ie - Ford, if I remember correctly) now recommend changing car tires every 6 years (although some recommend every 10 years). Moreover though, there is no official expire dates, and those were just guides.
Can anyone shed some light on this subject?
Many thanks!
Dominic yes its possible to renew car with tires older than three yrs ,actually i just did last month with five yrs old tires, as long as the tires r in good condition, they only check the condition of the tires not how old ...
use your upper chamber you can check by your eyes what is the condition of your car's tires after a year or a two if its good then you don't need to change it that's all...
After 6 years? Even in my home country, I would have to replace my tires before then (and it never hits 40+ there)
3 years expiration date for the car tires is too much especially if your are just using your car for city driving. 5 years should be just enough or as per remaining tire thread thickness.
Omar: Are you saying that it is possible to renew a car registration in Qatar for a vehicle that has tires older than three years, even if tread life remains?
To be honest, even if there is no law on this, for how long (duration) you can drive your car without changing the tyres. for me I don't go off road and I really take care of my car and I was forced to change the tyres after 4 years. The tyres are part of tear and wear and there must be time to change them. I can call this the law of safety
There is no legal requirement to change your tires, but some times its recommended to change tires every 5 years specially in hot weather, tires do have production date but no expiry date printed on them
