Help visiting Mumbai soon!
Hi there,
My husband and I are off to our favourite city, Mumbai! I'm very excited since I've last visited 8 yrs ago. I'm worried about the weather though. I know that its monsoon season but its the only time we can get away. Do any of you guys know how we can cope in the city at this time? Do we buy gumboots or galoshes? Can you buy these things in Doha? How do locals cope with the rain? I know that the rain in Mumbai isnt anywhere as bad as Bangladesh but I've seen the reports and it looks quite wet. Are we going to be confined to our hotel or should we take scuba diving gear?
Any help will be appreciated
Shreeya, you mentioned going to Worli Seaface in Mumbai, could you tell me where it is? I'll try to bring you back a few raindrops ;)Q
Thank you shreeya for all your valuable info. I found the description of the different phases of the monsoon very facinating. I'm sorry to hear about Mystica's bad experience but can only say that when I was in Mumbai I never felt safer despite the crowds. I love the energy and excitment of the city and I think I'll apreciate that even more now coming from Doha. Thanks again
Now? were still on holiday I mean, my kids still out of schools! I sleep whenever I got exhausted staying on line all day! that's why I never feel bored here! Thanks to Ql, Qp which is now down:-( and Qatar-Expat which is quite new and only me is online all day so far! nye! he! he! he! and the Filipino site! they kept me occupied! lol!
Judge not! that you be not judged!
Goodnight daredevil Mystica...feeling sleeeeeeeeeeepy now. What time generally you go to sleep?

Simply because! If you hate someone you take it to your sleep! and if you take it to your sleep! that means you don't have a peaceful mind! With me? life is short! whether you like it or not death is unexpected!
Judge not! that you be not judged!
I didn't say I am generalizing Mumbai just a matter of phobia! Generalizing? Me? Never!
I'm just sharing my experience! I supposed I'm just irresistible to him! nye! he! he! he!
Judge not! that you be not judged!
Shocked to hear this Mystica and felt really sorry. I lived there for almost 30 years of my life, daily commuted via local trains for almost 15 years but never met such an incident really. But you can find these sick minded perverts in any crowded place I think. Well, not going to Mumbai is at all your decision; just please don't generalize about the place.

Last time I was there in Mumbai! My baby girl was less than a year old! one guy grabbed my boobs when were trying to get into the taxi infront of the Police Station! if you please! He thought it's all mine! but of course half of it is all milk! he moved then I chased after him had a good jump behind him and hit him on the head that he really mind! people laugh at him but the didn't do anything! that's why we never fly to Mumbai again! crowded and lots of ass! Last time we flown via Trivandrum and flown back via Bangalore. Trivandrum is an old town, Bangalore is a lovely and modern City. We love to go to Goa India! It reminds me of provinces in Philippines!
Judge not! that you be not judged!

Mumbai Sucks.... Esp during the rains...
Ghalib,
I quickly Googled on your query but couldn't find relative information. But I will try to explain what I have learnt long long ago.
According to Indian Calendar there are 4 months of monsoon Jeshthya, Ashadh, Shrawan and Bhadrapad. Of these it is said that during Ashadh it rains like trunk of an elephant (Hasta nakshatra) i.e. it rains heavily. During Shrawan there are intermittent lite showers and sunshine. Like rain and sun playing hide and seek. Shrawan is considered as month of festivals and overall atmosphere during this month is pleasant with greenery all around and lots of flowers.
This is exclusively for you Ghalib as this information will go bonkers for our friend Qan123!!!!LOL!!!!

shreeya,
i enjoyed reading your interesting write-up on mumbai monsoon . i think it will be better if they visit juhu choupati as well because most of the illegal encroachments have been removed recently.
i would really be thankful to you if you could kindly confirm that the fifth month of the vikram samvat calender,i.e., shrawan really means rain will come and go,again come and go.
best regards,
ghalib
Welcome to Mumbai Qan123!!! I am Mumbaikar's representative here on QL. I just envy you dear, you are going to visit my beautiful city leaving me here in this scorching heat.
It won't be raining continuously during this month as this is Shrawan i.e. rain will come and go, again come and go...like on. If luckier enough you may catch the glimpse of a rainbow in golden sun. Don't forget to take a stroll around Gate way of India and Worli sea face.
Umbrella will not be helpful for Mumbai's rains. I don't know what do you mean by galoshes..but raincoat will work for sure. Don't try to walk thru water logged areas. It is advised to take a shelter during rains wherever you are. Also instead of gumboots try any light rainy sandals which you will get in the BATA Shoe shops.
Soooo...enjoy the great monsoon of Mumbai and don't forget to bring some raindrops for me when you come back....cheers!!!!!
