Holiday dilemma

You guys, I'm going on leave the end of July. Apart from going home to see my family I am planning to visit some other place as well.
Now, I am considering Spain with Portugal, Italy (Rome) and Greece.
The plan is to go sightseeing, because what's the point of just sitting on the beach where I have plenty of sand here in Doha?!

I haven't been to any of these places and just cannot decide which one to chose.

Have you been to any of these places? What did you like about it and what sucks?
Or maybe some of you went to all three? Which would you recommend?

I know the subject is different, but I can see that we are getting a bit depressed here lately...so help me out here!

I'd appreciate all your comments :o)

Eternity, I'd go for Maldives-crazy expensive, but nice place :o)

Seychelles is a bit boring I guess. Bali is risky - security wise - coz some bomb attacks heppened there before. So you are left with Langkawi.

Another option is the Maldives.

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but in a similar vein, which wud be a better destination for September - Seychelles, Bali or Langkawi(Malaysia)?? Intend to go to a tropical beach with scuba diving and all other related activities!!

Roma will be too crowded this time of the year. Nevertheless, it´s a truly wonderful place that you must visit at least once in your lifetime. But perhaps summer is not the best time.

You will love Portugal. I do. And it´s also very cheap and so charming.

Be careful with Spain in summer though. Also too crowded and the south can get very very hot. Also Madrid is hot and life short of stops a little during August. As Orix says, Catalunya and Galicia are the best places to go this time of the year. I´m in Galicia right now and the weather is very mild...around 20C every day, and Santiago is one of those places that you will never forget. And trust me, as sick as you may feel of being in sand, the beaches around here are a feast for the senses, so clean, beautiful, wild and if you know where to look, so quiet.

I'm going to Poland first.

So from there I have few options, either to go with a travel agency or just book one of the "economy" airlines and some places to sleep through the Internet.

But I haven't decided yet.

Well, the way I like my holiday is to keep it active. I like having something planned for each day, even though it might not completely work. I just don't like to be bored when I'm on vacation.

So all the sightseeing, clubbing, meeting people, traveling is my thing :o)

I don't really have a favourite sightseeing theme-everything new is exciting to me!

Swissgirl, I know Italians are cute...but then again so are the Spanish guys and Arabs and all the "tall, dark and hansome" ones. Hehe!

At least for my taste ;o)

If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.

head for the hills...

go to barcelona and the pyranees

or northern spain - santiago de compestela

or lake como in italy and then switzerland

if you want green and cooler = NORWAY!!

i used easy jet to go to portugal

I have been in Greece, but only on a holiday place called Paralia, but there was nothing to see there only the beach. Anyway, this was the first time for me to see the sea, so I liked it.

But for cultural attraction Athens would be the best.

I haven't been in Rome and Barcelona yet, but I am planning to go, it must be both very beautiful! Barcelona with all that Gaudi staff, it's just beautiful!

Had been to Spain personally. It is a wonderful place for holiday. Did not visit all places but had been to Sevilla and Granada besides Madrid.

Been there in March. Do not know about the scene in Summer.

The Spaniards are wonderful people and I have really enjoyed everything there. Even driving all the way from Medrid to the south.

Spain, Italy and Portugal are all fantastic (haven't been to Greece yet so can't comment). And it's summer so it's a great time to visit.

Of course, it really depends on what type of sites you want to see. If you want to see some Islamic heritage, you can visit the south of Spain. If you're into Renaissance art, Italy would be your best bet.
