Lawyer Required for action against Real Estate firm

Hey folks,

I ran into some trouble with my landlord (the real estate firm - not the Qatari). Basically they owe me money and are threatening to cash in my security deposit cheque if I vacate. The amount I stand to lose to be exact is QAR 7,750.

While I haven't lost all of it yet, I'm contemplating hiring a lawyer to get my money back (and possibly some damages) - perhaps by sending a legal notice to the real estate firm, which already has court cases against it. I've heard that lawyers in Doha are expensive. What I want to know is:

1. Is it worth hiring a lawyer for the amount of money mentioned?

2. If the answer to the previous questions is yes, are there any lawyers out there or does anyone know a good lawyer who'll get the job done?

Thanks in advance!

Lawyers and civil case will not work. Approach rent dispute committee and Capital police will work

First of all lawyers in Doha dont have any voice in the courts here. They do only document submission even the case is civil or criminal.

Lawyers are expensive also.

If you are filing a civil case against your real estate firm for getting money back, first of all you need to pay court fee 3000 QAR.

Suggest

Visit Rent Dispute Committee in Doha and prepare a complaint letter against real estate & attach all the documents and payment reciepts including cheque copies. Complaint should be in real estate name. Keep the copy of acknowledgement.

Same day visit Capital Police Station and Submit a complaint for threatening against the person who is holding your cheque. Complaint should be in person's name in police station. Keep the copy of the complaint.

Same day block the cheque in bank by submitting these 2 complaint copies.

Now you are safe. They cannot encash your cheque. They cannot charge cheque case as well because you have all the proof.

In the mean time the police will forward the threatening complaint to public prosecution then the guy will beg on your feet.

Rent dispute committe will take action for your safe stay and illegal grabbing of money also.

Do it.

If you need any help let me know but i am out of qatar now. I can text you

There is a saying from Confucius: The lowest class in society are the traders and businessmen. He said that 2,500 years ago. Stay away from them, if you can.

Thanks guys. And @Joker I'll try that soon enough :)

The party is one called Acon Trading btw. Wouldn't advise taking any apartment rented out by them.

@Erik and Rafeeq, if you guys are sure that mistake is not from your side then you should name them here so it could be a alert to all QL'ers.

7750 is not worth going for a legal action. its going to cost you much more. try to be nice with them and get your money back.

Use this technique and 99% its going to work. if you are here with family, just go their office with family, politely request to meet manager and ask for money, if he deny, don't talk much or argue. just sit in their office with your family until they pay you, and don't just get out even if they going to close the office. and if they call police and mistake in their, police would make sure you get your money (if mistake is from their side, obviously they are not going to call police but pay).

Let us know if it worked :) .......

I guess the name of the firm starts with 'T'. Better stay away from them for any deals. Its a group of people with well setup office and infrastructure. They will cover you with compliments and talks until the contract being signed. Later, you will come to know the true face. I am a victim..!!

Its a warning for all QLers..!

I suggest you stay away from lawyers and taking legal action. First, a lawyer is going to cost you, possibly more than what you are expecting to save. Second, it will take several months before the court passes its judgement on your case.
