Medical Insurance Cards & Pharmacies
By steve.kaby •
I have been to many pharmacies for some antibiotics with the doctor's prescription and medical insurance form stamped by the doctor/clinic. To my surprise I found that most of the pharmacies said that they do not accept any insurance cards. Even those pharmacies which used to accept insurance cards previously told me that they have new management and so no more insurance card acceptance. Is this some sort of way to promote low cost cheap brand medicines over the counter by these pharmacies? I really wonder how they get to sell the good expensive medicines without allowing to buy with insurance cards except for a few.
No. It is all depends on the contract between insurance companies and medical providers and pharmacies. It is upto them to join or withdraw from the contract. If they are out of contract , they will not accept insurance cards . Pharmacies or medical providers have the liability to accept insurance cards of the insurers with whome they already commited contract. Generally they do exhibit the names of insurance companies with whome they have contract.
