Minimum speed limit

Does anyone know what is the legal "minimum" speed limit in Doha?

I drive at 70kph (on a road where the max speed limit is 80kph) and everyone's honking at me for driving too slow (by the way, i drive at the "slow lane" since I am a newbie at driving).

I checked the MOI website and it only mentions the maximum speed limit.

Thanks.

No offense meant by this - but anyone driving 70 in an 80 zone (or 60 or 50 for that matter) is seriously putting their lives at risk. I've only been driving here for a couple of weeks now (from USA) but I see more rear-end accidents than I could have ever imagined. Even though the guy behind you is at fault - YOU STILL GOT HIT! So speed up a little, at least to the posted limits my friend, so that when a guy hits you from behind at 100, it's only a difference of 20kph, not more - your back, neck, and passengers will thank you!

all i can say is just follow the speed limit....better than to wait 2hrs or more for the police if you have accidents.

some advice:for me its effective

-if u see that the driver is a qatari lady dont get to close, let her pass specially in roundabout, they dont use there signal lights.

-dont get to close specially the car in font of u,give space so u can maneuver anytime.

-use your signal lights, rear mirror, side mirror

-dont rely on your breaks.....know your driving skill before getting some speed.

ONE RULE: never let the impatients drivers annoy them. Be patient in such a way u give them action you're trying to give em ways. Remember, you cant benifit from your good reasoning no matter how right you are, you dont know what they are arguing about against you.

i agreed with snowstorm not to be very slow so if u r taikng fast line 80 then drive at least 70 and its not slowest speed

but if u want to go slow r enjoy the hot weather then took the third row and drive as slow as you can.

But if you feel some one also horn then there is only one solution put two signal (as you have a problem with ur car) and drive safly.

Better to just pull over and let them go by, when it is safe continue with your overtaking, if you want to hurry along let a Landcruiser or Yukon (both weapons of choice here) pass you then let them clear the traffic in front, just keep 100 metrs or so behind them to allow for general lunacy taking over

Until the police and drivers of low-numbered Land Cruisers/Range Rovers begin to obey the speed limits, stop using their mobile phones while driving, and wear their seat-belts, it's unlikely that anyone else in Qatar will believe the laws are being enforced.

In many other countries, traffic violations by police and senior community leaders would be strictly punished. That doesn't seem to be the case in Doha. It's common for a police Nissan Patrol to push you out of the fast-lane even if you're driving at the speed limit.

I just don't understand why people can't see the accident figures that appear regularly in the papers and equate it with their own driving style.

if you cannot maintain you will be force to park you car on the footpath ;-o

j/k ... you can drive car in the city with min speed limit of 60kmph .... but mind driving in the second or the third lane ! try to avoid driving slow on the fast track on your left !

..i agree - we should give way to these crazy drivers as we don't want to cause an accident because of their inconsideration. It is a shame that there are not also severe penalties for those who drive irrationally and without due care and attention to other people's lives; and that there is one rule for one and another rule someone else ..... it is about time someone took some responsibilty and severly punish crazy drivers - i.e take their licence from them for 10 years for example, this should then show them what a menace they are and teach the lesson properly - a car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands...

I my self am a driver who is always in rush since nature of my work is like that but i dont do rash driving and i dont over speed. At some times i have noticed not actually sometimes but every day there are people who are really annoying like if they want to take U turn, before 2 km to the R/A or a traffic signal they will come on Extreme left lane(fast track) bcoz of what people get angry and they get pissed off so always when u want to take a uturn make sure u are not blocking someone's way and try to maintain a good speed.like if u are taking fast track to take u turn b4 2kms vehicles which are coming on high speed from behind lets say 120 or 100 they have to apply brakes hard bcoz of u which makes them upset so a good driver is not who considers his safety only but others. This is a request to all Qlers drive safely and always give way there is no point of fighting. we all have family waiting at home we are here to support our families not for fighting.Let the traffic Dept. handle the traffic and there are speed limits on every road with proper indications of speed in shape on traffic sign boards follow them and reach your destination safely :) best of luck.

Ignore them, drive as slow as u want.

I faced something really stupid last week. An idiot driving a trailer (most of them are stupid from the way they drive), over took a small car. On the other hand the second dumbest people in qatar (karwa drivers), they flash at u when u drive slow...

Try not to be too slow, and be on the right most lane if you are driving slow.

dont drive too slow when the traffic is moving well. I see many people doing 50 - 60 on 80 speed limit. so annoying.

Everybody is right everybody is wrong it depends where you stand.

sorry for your friend but in such a case its best to let the impatient guy go. The rule is to give way even if the guy car behind u is overspeeding.

maaaaaaaaan look.... you can drive at 100 kmph at almost every road. but when there comes a devil in your mind so just speed up and watch out for radars. keep an eye on speed limit board. And never think that there are only raars that can caught you there are some CIDs waiting for their violations book to be filled. :D

No wonder too many accident happen in Qatar.People drives like the vehicle has no brake at all...or do they have driving licence in their own country?

I just started driving here today and was trying to maintain the speed limit although I was being extremely cautious as I don't know my way around very well. Some guy comes up to my rear bumper, honks at me, pulls out of the lane, passes me doing about 120 km/hr, then gets in front of me and practically slows down to a crawl....what's with that? I think it is best to drive only the speed limit and let others do whatever they want - I mean where the heck are they going that they need to drive like maniacs?

people drive irresponsibly, dangerous and without regard to others in Doha ..... a maximum speed limit is maximum speed limit. Should never be surpassed. If anyone wants to drive faster than this, then they should be banned from driving - there are too many cars anyway & who needs crazy drivers? there are families and other people who are injured and killed by these selfish people = I hope no one here counts themselves as one of these fast drivers -

True, when i was eligible to drive, i used to be going at 80 on a 80 speed limit road and still they'd honk at me.

i used to move to the next lane when it was free but when there wasn't room in the next lane, what was i supposed to do??? break the speed limit!

We are all to busy to wait for you- we are all on our way shopping..

Seriously, there is no minimum speed limit, but if you are making a queue then you are driving too slowly and could be fined.

This is at least how it works in Europe
