Paraplegic kitten
I went for a walk around the old Souk yesterday afternoon (19 Nov 2007) and crossed paths with a tiny paraplegic kitten just outside the new Moroccan place Tajine. He seemed confused and in a real bad shape but no one seemed to notice him. I left hoping that someone is taking care of him otherwise he wouldn't have survived as his whole lower body is impaired, after I got home I felt sorry for the little thing so drove back to the Souk armed with a shoe box and an old t-shirt and found him in the same spot cold and hungry, took him home and fed him
Do you know of any shelter that would take this Kitten (named Tommy, pic attached) I already have a cat and I don't think I'll be able to take care of Tommy in his state!!! Any Suggestions are welcome!!.
Thanks Jasskat....I'll keep an open eye for stray kittens..lol
Oh, I am so sorry to hear about the kitten, but sometimes that is a necessary evil.
London, maybe you can rescue another cat to be new best friends with your cat at home?
I was fortunate, my kitten didn't have any internal injuries or the such ( i think he just wanted me to carry him around as much as possible that little rascal!)

Poppy thank you for all your efforts, I really appreciate what you do. I'm sad to hear this but my mind has rested knowing that we did what we could, and if the vet says that wouldn't heal from injuries than i can understand that the only thing humane to do is to put him down. Thanks everyone and bless you Poppy and the girls from qatarpets.
Sadly the ktten had to be put to sleep, all done very peacefully and professionally.
It breaks my heart when we have cases like this, sadly there are so many of them. This kitten would have had no quality of life, us humans may have felt a bit better if we could have kept it alive BUT the most important thing to any living creature is quality of life. With no bowel control and digestive problems this kitten would not have been able to develop normally.
The kitten will suffer no more. Thank you to everyone who cared enough to post here.
I spent the night before last "sitting up" with a stray kitten that we have been feeding. Three days since it disappeared. When it did appear, it could hardly walk as it kept losing it's balance.
I feared the worst at about 4am when the inner lids started to close but glad to say it has pulled through and is currently occupying my favourite chair.
I think we could be buying a tray and cat litter tomorrow.
glad the Poppy has managed to get him.... Its a sad state of affairs unfortunately Jass, when a kitty or pup is so badly hurt, in Doha, we really have no other option but to put it down.
There are so many babies that are in good health that need a home, and we are having problems finding them one, that what chance do the injured or lame ones have.
We have to be cruel to be kind sometimes.... Its something we have learnt about in our work with these stray animals..... We'd love to save them all, but its just not possible....
Please take a look at our website: www.qatarpets.org
FreeHi Jasskat! that's a really inspiring story...I wish the same outcome for Tommy, but in Qatar it seems that the usual outcome is putting the animal down hamanely.
Tommy has just been picked up by the caring Poppy thanks to the effort of Xena and Moonbeam too. My cat Buddha is very sad to see his new buddy leave the house after only 24 hours of sniffing and licking..hehehehe.
Ohh, I hope this little kitten will pull through! I had a kitten ( now a full grown grumpy cat) who couldn't use his back feet for a while, but he recovered without surgery or any permanent injury. When I first rescued him, all he could do was scoot along with his front paws! Now of course he is into everything :D

It seems that desert-queen won't be able to pick the cat but someone else will....(do not know her pseudo name) hehehe
And Desert queen DID call me! and will be coming to pick Tommy up in about an hour....I also told here if there is anything I can help with she should let me know....I'm ready to give some of my time helping with whatever I can. You are heros and heaven is your trophy.
Desert_Queen will be calling you shortly....
Thanks ladies and gents for all the above suggestions, but I want Tommy to have all his chances and if a vet says that he will not heal from his disability, then I would ask them to professionally put him down, it breaks my heart, as you can see from the picture he's small and very sweet, friendly too (he's sleeping against my foot as I write this). If anyone knows of a humane vet let me know, my vet is good but he's a realist and would probably want to put him down.
would be to put it down as much as it breaks my heart to say it.
Come on. A paraplegic cat. Have it put down, that is the nicest thing to do
I hope somebody from the pet group will be here soon to help you
I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here
Than a whole truck load when I'm gone
oh thats so sad...
i am afraid I am out at work too much and don't think I can give the kitty the attention it needs.
Let's hope someone answers you can....
londonalgiers, I dont have any suggestions for your thread, but I admire you kindness for other living-beings. May God bless you
Here you are again with that beautiful open heart that you have. First a young lady that hurts and you don't even know her and now a kitten. Bravo to you and if you were in Texas I would give you a big hug. Keep that heart open.
