Hi,

I would really appreciate it if someone can recommend a good pediatrician in Doha and preferably in a hospital.

Thanks

Following your such nice comments and recommendations , I took my four year old son to the same clinic...I reached at 1:00 pm sharp and the receptionist told me dr.ghassan doesn't see patients after 1... Since my son was very sick and I had come from really far so I asked her to request the doctor, who was still in the clinic and to my surprise he refused to see my son....I am surprised how such a nice paediatrician (according to you) cannot spare 10 minutes of his precious time........?????

do pediatricians do home visits? if you just want to speak to someone about your child, who also knows that child's medical history can you find this, or is going to one of the clinics the only option?

All I can say is each one has his/her good or bad experiences regarding the PEC, Hamad hospital and health centres, but goof ups can take place anywhere, I have been to many private clinics and have seen the way they handle situations, so cant just blame any one place.

Talking of professional courtesy, i was merely giving information I would personally use if I had to,no offense meant to anyone.

You cant be too careful with young children and I can only pray that parents dont have to rush their kids for any reason to the PEC, its not a happy place for the child or the parent, and this I state from my repeated experiences.

for normal and regular stuff we go to company clinic. But for emergency we go to Al Saad pediatric centre. Very happy with the doctors there. It was 3 yrs ago when my son suddenly have a very high fever in the middle of the night. Touch wood i dont have to go back there.

Well the primara health center doctors themselves recommend you go to pediatric emergency car than going to them. By the way most of the primary health care centres DO NOT HAVE pediatricians.

I remember once my 2 month old cousin was taken to a primary health centre here and the doctor advised me to give him tea!!

Thanks again for all of you.

I have been in Doha for two years and never gone to Hamad (I even don't have medical card). I always preferred to go to private hospitals/doctors as this is faster and more convenient. But doctors in hospitals can leave the country like anybody else and we stay months to find another good one. for one reason or another it's not easy for some people to survive in qatar.

Professional courtesy to recommend a doctor you work with, not?

Pediatric Emergency Care are good but not always the best. For emergency treatment like bringing a child's temperature down quickly it's the place to go, however they have in the past prescribed medication for my son that didn't work and had to be changed.

That's why you need a regular GP.

hi, i have met many docs in the past 3 years, and fortunately or unfortunately i had to go the pediatric emergency centre and i feel they are the best for any problem, they see a lot of kids on a daily basis, so they are accurate in their diagnosis, i had to take my son 2 days back in the middle of the night and the medicines they gave worked for him. moreover if they feel a child needs to be admitted for any complaint they dont hesitate, they only discharge the child if they have observed him/her completely, and then they ususally do call the child the following day for a follow up.i used to have a lot of misconceptions about hamad hospital and the PEC before, but, alhamdullilah I am fine with them now, since I am regularly visiting both the places.

However i would suggest you also keep in contact with a GP whom you can talk to on the phone for minor problems, and if necessary then take you child to the PEC. This is what I do, and alhamdullilah all is well.

The Most popular hospital for Kids appears to be Family Medical Centre of Al-Nasir based on the crowd everyday for their doctors..Always busy...Agree with E46...Use Al-Sadd Emergency care just for that..Emergency...and Always donate at the 3 boxes on the entrance..way to say thank you to Qatar Government...(though the money will go to charity)

Dr.Attyia in Al Ahli Hospital is super, she used to be head of pediatric department in Hamad Hospital,

Only problem is she has one week mornings duty and the next week afternoons duty,so on,

so it may not suit ur timings, other than that she is really doing great.

I take them to Dr Karam at Qatar Medical Center. She's an Iraqi who's cared for them for the past 3 years.

Iraqi doctors are very good, by and large. Having had to offer care in Iraq under sanctions for many years they have a lot of experience and know their drugs very well.

We're happy with her.

Thank you e46M3, is there any specific pediatrician by name you go to? I used to take my kids to Emadi hospital but unfortunately the doctor there left the country (because he couldn't afford the house rent increase, can you believe it?).

Why tax the system like that? The Pediatric Emergency Care center is just that, for emergencies; fever, vomiting, etc.

And if they think it's not an emergency they'll send you to a health center. Just because it's free, or relatively free, doesn't mean it should be abused.

I don't take mine to one in a hospital. I do the private clinic/medical center thing.
