thank you Mr.Postmodernman. and Afeque..
I got the exact address, its at Al-Fardhan..
the public library system can be discovered at:
http://www.qatarvisitor.com/index.php?pName=book-stores&cName=Qatar%20Culture&pID=1072&cID=412
when there are restrictions on use as mentioned in this page, its hardly a public library though.
lots to be done in this area in qatar - actually it's almost shameful with the wealth here that there isn't a robust public library system. lots to be learned from the developements in this area in the uae.
many of the university libraries will let you go in a sit for the day and read their materials, but you can't borrow any.
there's also a massive new central library being planned at qatar foundation, but that is several years away.
the virgin bookstore almost feels like a remainders bookstore - the selection of books is pretty feeble. the cds dvds and electronics section are awesome.
i was moderately impressed by the craft books at the jarrir.
there was a pretty bizarre article in the paper a month or two ago about publishing and libraries in qatar. i don't think the journalist or the people interviewed knew much about modern publishing or libraries.
I think there is only one government library here and also not sure if they have books in other language than arabic.
