QTel ADSl reuters problem

Today was the 5th time, QTel support guys visited my house to fix the "frequent signal dropping by Thomson reuter". The reuters restarts by itself and every time to use internet (wirelessly) need to restart modem. I am torrent downloader, too. Before one month this problem started and before that, 6 motnhs no issues. And before that same problem was there, Qtel support guys changed the reuters itself and the problem was solved.

The QTel talks nicely on phone, but as a fact, the support guys are sub-contractors, who would come to your house and do some changes in setting and tell u the problem is solved.
SUPPORT GUYS.... MY ISSUE OCCURS PERIODICALLY LIKE AFTER HALF OR ONE HALF THE SIGNAL WILL DROP, HOW CAN U SAY THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED...

Anyways QLers, do you guys think i should change my reuters and it will solve the problem, or let me know what to do...

Thanks in advance.

i think a switch only do switching not routing . there is a big difference between routing and switch , a multilayer switch can do routing with configuring a VLAN .

Same damn problem with my device. Called QTel a million times and guess what they suggest... please switch it off for few minutes and restart and see if its solved. Off course the support know that once I restart it will work and it will take sometime to get stuck again and I am not going to stay on hold till that happen. Poor support as usual. I am use to off it now and I don't bother to call Qtel.

Every one has the same problem. I dont know when the hell will Qtel do something about it.

adsl modem must have some routing support , other wise it cannot communicate to different networks , i would say it is adsl router , if you want to share with more than one pc it is better to use an adsl router . Also you can share with an adsl modem by connecting to an shared pc(ICS)

..reuters, routers, modem, adsl, dsl, mozaic, broadband..hope someone who is an expert enlightens us on the differences of these things..it is not proper to analyze a concern or should i say compare apples to oranges..the net is quite essential to me..and i'd be in doha by next week, inshallah..a dsl connection is one of the major factor i'd consider when i choose a place to stay in while i work there..regards...

Keep the modem off when you are not using it.This can avoid overheating and system hang.

I had the same prob before it was gradual and it became worse.at the end the router just kept on resetting and they changed it after 6months.try other brand routers (if they work there) the Thomsun ones are a bit problematic.

..ADSL connection via a "router"..i thought DSL connections are hard wired..?..DSL connections should be the best available internet connection nowadays and if those problems are really happening then we do have a big problem..i would not be surprised with the concerns on mozaic since they can't even make it perfect with DSL..what to use now - worry-free in doha..?..

Rodulf,

I'm tempted to follow your suggestion, we subscribe Mozaic TV because of my daughter who loves watching Cartoons. So can't cut it.

I CAN REPLACE THE DEVICE ALONGWITH CONFIGURING THE NEW ROUTER FOR THE QTEL SETTINGS TO ACCESS INTERNET.

FOR SECURED WIRELESS SET-UP & CONFIGURATION PLEASE

Same crap with me.

Moved house. Subscribed for 4MB at 433 riyals a month.

Free connection and router (actually paid 190QR for their piece of sh..)

Connection on and off 10 times a day at least.

Can confirm that another router (went to carefour and bought the best for 450QR did not solve the problem.

Downloading torrents not a big deal, since they continue once router restarts by itself.

Watching TV with dreambox is bad since after the connection is dropped, you have to wait 10-30 minutes.

Overall experience with Qtel is like with any other service here. Pay big - get sh..

We are all here for the money. Unfortunately most of it is spent here (rent, school, food...)

Hi Spize,

Can you please give me the specific model of the netgear router so we can check the specs and compare the config of that from Qtel?

Thanks in advance

Have you tried using a netgear ADSL router? That is the router I used to solved the issue of my clients who is suffering the same problems as yours. Up to this moment he is using that router for internet, mozaic and VOIP.

For those who don't have MOZAIC TV you can buy other router. Then your problem will be solved. Like what we did before.

For my case, I don't know what kind of router that supports internet TV yet. So I cah't change it. If I complain to Qtel they will only change the router with the same brand they have and charge me QR210 for the unit change. But soon i will have the same problem.

Turning it off then turn on again just to refresh the connection is just a temporary solution. We need a permanent solution

Simple home remedy in that kind of situation is to turn off your router for a while then turn it on again to refresh all the connections.

I had the same problem before So we bought a new router (CISCO) not from Qtel. Problem solved. But that was before we decided to apply for Mozaic TV. Qtel had to change our Cisco Router to their own router. Now we are facing the same problem. On and off signal. MY IT friend told me sadly he can't change it with a different router other than Qtel have because of the configuration. Any suggestion on this?

This just shows that there's a problem with the router that QTEL is providing (Thomson). They should do something about this. Because so many complaints on this already.

The best solution is to change your router and I highly recommend it specially in your case.

I was a freelance IT support before and most of my clients have faced the same problem as yours.
