Seeking general advice and specific info about preschool
I am due to arrive in Doha in September as a visiting professor of law and social science on an American fellowship. My wife (also a professor), 4-year-old daughter, and I shall be in Qatar for 10 months.
We are looking to find a spot as soon as possible for my daughter in a good pre-school program. In general, we have been partial to Montessori schools here in Massachusetts, USA where we live. The only place I've managed to contact from the US is the American School, which apparently has a long list.
Does anyone know of (a) good pre-school programs that are likely to have a spot in September (I saw someone mention Mulberry Bush here but could not reach them by telephone and/or (b) specific phone or email contact for Doha Montessori School? I have tried 469-1634 to no avail. Do smaller schools just not staff their telephone lines?
Anyway, any help any of you could provide on this is much appreciated.
I've been enjoying reading your posts generally. Once we adapt to putting our heads in the oven when we deplane in September, I anticipate that we'll have a very nice experience in Doha.
there are a new law from ministry of education ... Not sure what exactly what is said, but basically after 3 yrs old your kid can not go to the nursery without the nursery having a specific license. There are so many nurseries in Doha, a friend of mine said only few of them have a proper license. I think it is Sunbeam, CESK, and Doha Montessori School.
At presents some relevants people trying to make a petition to the ministry of education. If they are successfull hopefully the law would be change. But i wouldn't hold my breath.
As soon as you arrive in Doha, i suggest you put your daughter name in the waiting list for American School of Doha (ASD). I assume that you are an american and looking for american education for your daughter :-)
