sick n tired of crossing roads in doha

I'm wondering when pedestrains will be respected from qatari reckless drivers. I was about to die many times of crossing the roads in doha, parking in one road and crossing to the other is completely risky! I suggest doha build some walking bridges espcially starting in front of the city center. do you agree with me????????

which parents in their right mind would letting their kid/s cross 'ANY ROADS' in Qatar (Doha particularly), when they know how people drive here.

I wouldnt dream in a million years letting my son crossing the road even with me, let alone on his own.

Its a pathetic excuse being late, or having to drive extra few kms further in order to put their kid/s life first.

What priority do these people put on their kid/s life ???

Ok. Points noted. I thought there was some proposal / petition pending about building pedestrian bridges esp. in the city area. So what's happened to that one?

Drivers don't respect the pedestrians here especially the locals... there are no crossing bridges or underground tunnels on all the corniche road! just signals.. they adore stopping the traffic!!!

I don't seems to have noticed any of the zebra crossing in Doha (probably I missed it) but I do notice at the Corniche roads there are few pedestrians crossing with self triggered - stop traffic lights available. These should be implemented at road locations of any schools for safety of childrens - first.

Building pedestrian overpasses is the least Qatar could think about it beacause they all have cars. And nice cars at that.

what policy is that, can you specify the correct wordings of that policy.

example a grade 1 child who love his school very much and was expelled due to his parents stupidity, what would the parent or the faculty tell the child? that he is thrown out of his favorite school, favorite classmates due to his parents made a mistake.

what would you think will be the effect of this to the childs wellfare. he's goin to hate his parents, he's gonna curse that school for kicking him out for the mistake that he didn't do.

remember, the school is the second home of a child.

as a parent of that second school, can you carry it in your conscience to throw your own child out though he's innocent?

you're not penalizing the parents but instead the child who just wants to be there in his classroom to study and have fun with his bestfriends

expelling the kid is not an answer. Parents should be fined some anmount..say Qar. 1k or so. Also, why cant pedestrian crossing signals be installed as it is on corniche..

In west, pedestrians have the right to crooss at designated points and walking person is given priority over vehicles etc.

Common sense: parents/children need to allow for delays so setting alarm clocks earlier and leaving home at an earlier time to avoid being rushed. Dropping kids off on the opposite side of the street from the school is just plain ignorant.

Adequate parking: buildings are erected all over this place and there needs to be more parking available to the masses close to the buildings. Obviously, no one thought of that. :(

School crossings: There should be manned school crossings with slower speed limits posted with lights. The people that speed in these school zones are fined.

Those that do not want to be delayed by these designated school zones, can find another route to their destination.

Bridges or under ground passage ways: If someone with some snap could leave their offices and study the pedestrian traffic in congested areas, these areas could be supplied with proper pedestrian bridges/underground crossings.

The American School has that policy and is very strict about it. If a child is expelled due to a parent's stupidity than maybe the parent will learn something finally.

BUILD FENCES...YEAH RIGHT....look at what happened to the fence opposite lulu hyper...Someone very easily removed a section of the fence and a lot of prdestrians are stiill using the hole in the fence to get to lulu from the other side.....only way to solve this problem is to either build a overhead pedestrian bridge or an undergound pedestrian subway...

I agree. So many Qatar Airways staff died crossing the road from KFC side to the airport. Did anyone do anything about it? No.

I hope this is taken care of soon. My dad's friend died the same way. He was crossing the road to go to a Clinic and then BOOM! He was hit by a car. Sometimes I see people crossing the road when I am driving and seriously, some walk so slow as if he is walking on the pavement.

In EC, were you are only allowed to drive 40 at max, I was crossing a road to get to my car, and this old stupid lady in her big Landrover SUV honked her horn at me :S .. I was like WTF, I'M IN EDUCATION CITY AND YOU STOP FOR US TO WALK - and she just gave me a hand gesture and drove off as if nothing had happened. I made sure she knew I was mad and I will do it again and again until she gets the point. Some do need a good banging on their heads before they get it.

there should be designated ped xings on doha roads so as to avoid accidents or build foot bridges, hope concerned authorities would someday take a look into this problem concerning pedestrians

baldrick, you cannot remove a kid from school because the parents had made an offense by dropping them at the other side of the road, have you forgoten, kids are expeld due to academics or behavior misconducts only. how would you feel if your child was expeld due to traffic reasons that has nothing to do with his grades or attitude at school.

in america and some other countries mostly have pedestrians and a security who stops the vehicles whenever the children are crossing.

they want to build fence to prevent pedestrians crossing the roads for their safety. i remember when i parked in D Ring trying to find a passage through the fence to go to Berlitz to avoid 20 mins at Mall roundabout. but what a waste!

please read this silly subject in gulf times;

http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topics/article.asp?cu_no=2&item_no=296767&version=1&template_id=36&parent_id=16#

Following an accident which took place outside a school in Doha last week, school officials have called on parents to act responsibly and ensure their children reach school safely without crossing busy roads.

A report published in Gulf Times last week highlighted the difficulties that pedestrians face when trying to travel around the city, and a number of readers responded by describing a specific issue related to two schools on D Ring Road.

Birla Public School and Newton International School are situated on opposite sides of the newly opened six lane highway, and at the beginning and end of the school day, the roads outside the schools are transformed into chaos, with cars often stopping in the two right hand lanes to pick up or drop off students, or accompany them across the road.

Gulf Times spoke to officials of both schools, who were unanimous in their condemnation of the behaviour of a number of parents, claiming that they could not believe that they continue to cross the roads to save themselves time – especially after the recent accident.

Birla’s principal A K Shrivastava explained that new rules regarding road crossing have been put in place since last Wednesday, and emphasised that new measures mean that children are not being allowed to cross the road and enter the school – rather their parents must drop them off outside the school gates.

“Every morning I am standing at a vantage point to see who is still trying to do this,” he said, adding “but we need to be able to fine parents who continue to offend.”

He explained only around 400 of the school’s 4,100 students travel by car to school, claiming that this small number of parents should not be causing such a problem.

“But laziness and trying to save time mean that people are putting their children at risk,” he argued, adding “for the sake of five or ten extra minutes, parents can ensure their children reach school or home safely.”

A representative of Newton International School told a similar story, expressing her disbelief at the risk that many parents and drivers continue to take with their children’s’ safety.

“Parents need to care about their children more – they simply cannot assume that accidents won’t happen to them,” she said, adding “it is essential that people are educated about road safety to help avoid any future accidents.”

She also argued that a fence should be erected in the central reservation in the same way that others have been introduced in other sections of the D Ring Road.

“We have brought the issue up with the relevant authorities, and are waiting for a response,” she said, “we also have the issue of a lack of parking space which needs to be addressed, and both of these are matters that we are looking into very carefully.”

“People need to be educated,” she said, adding “by making simple changes we can make sure that children’s lives are saved.”

Both officials expressed their wish to send a strong message to the offending parents and drivers, and Shrivastava claimed that this behaviour would simply not be tolerated in the future.

“They must stop it completely – there is no reason for it and it is completely wrong,” he added.

yes i agree with you, a lot of people died in pedestrians coz a lot of drivers here doesn't really know what a pedestrian is, footbridges would be the safest way
