No such thing as "live" maps. All maps on the internet are at least 3 months out of date purely because of the logistics involved in keeping the data sets up to date. Satellite images are often 12 to 24 months out of date. Due to current licensing issues no map can be "live".
For decent maps on the internet for the UK try www.map24.com, also great for Middle East,too. The maps are supplied by Navteq, in my opinion the best, but then I am biased.
You can go to Google Earth the free version, the sattelite images are back to 2006, but i think that you can get 6 month old satellite images if you subscribe for the updated version.
