I can recommend you professionals who can recover data from any damaged situation. It requires Class100 lab to open the drive, else the whole date is gone. There is only one Class 100 lab in Middle east which is More Data recovery, www.datarecovery.ae

They have an office in Qatar, Wings Solutions Tel 44320023 or mail [email protected]

Turbo, I had a similar problem, lost all my photos, videos etc on an external hard drive. My problem was not a reformatted drive, but a totally corrupt and inaccessible hard disc.

I spent months following advice after advice but never gave up. Lots of programs via google and the internet promised to recover the files, but no proof, and they wanted money up front.

Eventually I found a program. It will actually show you all the files it can recover before you need to part with any money. So you can be sure first that it will work.

The program is called 'filescavenger'. It does claim to recover certain files from a formatted drive.

However, beauty is, you can download it and try first, it will list (in window type presentation format) all the files it can retrieve. Then it is up to you, the cost is only a few dollars.

Type 'filescavenger' into Google to find it.

............. After all this, do as I do now, BACK UP ALL YOUR FILES ON TO AN EXTRA DRIVE!!!! Once burnt ......

Good luck.

I know that there are lots of softwares to recover the data but did not try them yet. I think it is not possible to save files to the drive on which they were deleted. You must save them to other storage media (eg. Second hard drive, floppy disk, USB drive, network, CD or DVD etc).

Well, from wat it looks, i think the guy who installed the OS wen i got the comp must've installed it on D (partition) instead of C, and sinc the virus prevented me from entering any folders, i had no choice but to format the drive (partition) to avoid any furter loss. I had AVG installed, but still this happened!

To VBProgrammer: all the pics and videos were in My Documents. I had to format it coz i tried but couldn't copy any of the files to the other partition.

To gfxmad: I tried everything i could, but failed! Is there anything i can do now to recover the data???

To jgaon4u: I've sent u an email, pls let me kno.

To Default Nick: I'll check it out. Thanks.

Thanks a lot guys! Any help would b highly appreciated!

Hey, yes you can recover data not very big deal. But there is sth that we have to mention, do not install any programs or copy anything in your formatted hard drive now. Only mandatory programs shall be installed because since you keep writing new DATA the old DATA kept in your formatted hard drive will be deleted because new DATA will be written on the same sectors and if it happened like that it will be impossible to recover your DATA.

There is a nice program that I used for a couple of times and worked fine with me. Its called "RECOVER MY FILES" you can search in google and download it its very easy to use. If you need any further info you can contact me by PM.

Good luck

Yes its truly possible even you formatted it for how many times...as long as there is no physical defect with your hard drive...send me email [email protected] so that i can give you more info.

Hello Turbo, First of all, there is a lot ways to remove the virus from a system. Formating is the final stage of removing virus. Not your files!! Hope you tried all possible ways to remove the virus. Why cant you make a backup of your datas to another HDD or DVDs' before making a blind format? Its possible to recover all your lost datas afetr formatting your system but its advice that keep a backup of all ur datas before doing it. Something is better than nothing.

NEVER REFORMAT YOUR HARD DRIVE AS THAT WILL TOTALLY ERASE ALL YOUR DATA IN THAT. MAY I KNOW?, IS YOUR DRIVE PARTITIONED? IF SO, COPY ALL YOUR DOCUMENTS TO THE PARTITION (NOT BOOTABLE OR NOT THE OPERATING SYSTEM DRIVE) AND ONLY FORMAT THE PARTITION WHICH CONTAINS THE OPERATING SYSTEM. BE SURE TO INSTALL A STRONG ANTI VIRUS AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF OS BEFORE RESTORING YOUR DATA AS IT MAY ALSO BE POSSIBLE THAT VIRUSES RESIDE ON YOUR OTHER PARTITION.
