iphone from USA

My friend from USA is coming over for a visit, I am planning to ask her to take iphone from US.I am quite aware that it needs to be unlocked..will it work here if i will take it to some shops to have it jailbroken?what about unlocking it?i am confused..guidance please...thank you..

so you mean it is okey for me to have an iphone directly from US?i'll just have it jailbroken/unlocked at some souqs and wallah!! i can use it ...that is great!!!
