The Best Biryanis Part 2
Okay, so we are revisiting the best biryanis in Qatar. We received numerous responses of where to try… and we did.
Four pounds heavier, I can say that I definitely missed some great biryanis in Qatar! The first article had Cuppa Tea Cafe, MRA, and Doha Rocks.
I still loooooooooooove Cuppa Tea Cafe’s biryani, and maybe even more than MRA’s as I have had it several times after writing the first article.
Upon your recommendations, I tried biryanis from Deccan Deewan, Hyderabadi Spices, Qutba, and Mr. Broast. I have already had Zaoq prior to writing these articles, although their biryani has a delicious flavour - but I was looking for Dum biryani - which has the curry and rice cooked together.
So, shall we begin?
Mr Broast - I loved this biryani! It was spicy and super hot. It is not for the faint of heart though. To me, it tasted great, but you definitely need to have a high tolerance for spicy food. This was nothing fancy, but is great if you want something different but not extremely heavy. The chicken biryani will only set you back 28QR, but it was definitely worth it.
Deccan Deewan Restaurant. The community came in strong for this one. I would definitely say this is Qatar’s favourite biryani. It was definitely delicious and you could tell that this was a high quality meal. I loved it. It wasn’t too heavy either. Buuuuut the only hitch to this one was that there was an extremely strong cardamom essence when you first dived in. All biryanis generally have cardamon, but this was a lot more than the usual flavor. After a few moments it passes, my colleagues, who were both South Asian, enjoyed it quite a bit. Regardless, it was delicious, I can’t stress that enough. The price for chicken biryani was 24QR - great value for great quality. Our party of three didn’t find it too spicy. I hear the mutton biryani was even better than the chicken biryani, which is definitely now on the must-try list.
Qutba - After sampling so many biryanis, Qutba presented a humble offering apparently, which turned out to be a nice treat. It was surprisingly better than what I was expecting for a 16QR dish. Again, there was some heat when it comes to spice, and I prefer a more balanced flavor in terms of spices, but it was perfect.
Hyderabadi Spices - To be honest, I found this biryani a bit boring and dull. It was for only 18QR and it was okay. It was not bad and not great either. However, if you like lighter foods that aren’t too strong on the spice and heat - then this might be the place to try. When I ordered biryani, I was hoping for something that offers a fragrant, flavourful dish.
There are still so many more biryanis to try out there. I think since my last article, Cuppa Tea Cafe is my new number one biryani place. I still love that place, a bit on the oily side, but true biryani heaven to this Canadian. Honestly though, I would eat ANY of these biryanis again. It was hard to pick which was better, while they were pretty much all awesome. It just comes down to personal preference.

Did anyone try Chicken "Hindi" Biriyani in a small restaurant @ Madina Khalifa. The name of the restaurant is "Mushwa Khaleej". The restaurant is being run by Egyptians. However they have the yummiest biriyanees of Qatar.
Its a small restaurant and there's NO enough space for family dining. There are 3 or 4 tables and thats it.
Due to this everyone prefers takeaway.
Location: Its in the area behind Omer Bin Khathab mosque - which is called as "Gazza". Once again, name of the restaurant is "Mushwa Khaleej". Its beside a small road in Gazza area
Chicken "Hindi" Biriyani - This is the BEST - better than any DUM Biriyanees of Qatar. One biriyani costs you 18 QR which would be enough for 2 average appetite people. Kindly note that you have to make order at least 1 day before for Chicken Hindi Biriyani, or else you will get "out of stock" response.
Kindly note the word "Hindi". If you forget to mention it, you will get normal biriyani which is NOT tasty.
Mutton Biryani: 1 Biriyani costs you 26 QR. It would be enough for 2 average appetite. Mutton Biriyani would be available all the time.
** The specialty is - They wont use much spices and masala as well as oil or ghee. Still its really tasty, and hence feel light for stomach.
One must try place is 'Aalishan Take Away' located at West Bay Petrol Station. They serve Awadhi Dum Biryani in clay pot.. Really refreshing and unlike anything available in Doha so far... Available in both chicken and mutton...
Malabar King is well known as Tamil Nado restaurant.
dear ..By san0jmk2004..i searched in google maps there's no restaurant by the name Malabar King...if u can post link it will be helpful for the restaurant and customers.
I didn't try the Biriyani from Cuppa Tea cafe. For a normal person, 24 QAR is too high for a chicken biriyani. So giving a high rating with that price, I don't prefer. You should compare the price also. I found a new restaurant at Bin Mahmoud "Malabar King Restuarant" near Badariya signal, where you will get the real Dum Biriyani. If I say the price of the Biriyani, you won't believe, it is just QAR 10. Any biriyani loving person can eat there without worrying the price. Try it..you will really love this.
Will try tonight - joys
Try the newly opened Hyd restaurant named "SANGEET". They are doing good to compete the Qatar Restaurant Market.
With all due respect - herein lies the problem with many bloggers on QL ..
They keep revisiting the same topic in different guises..
