Doha British School Al Wakra to open its doors for Year 8 students
Doha British School Al Wakra will offer classes up to Year 8 for the first time in the new academic year, commencing in late August. Located near Al Wakra Sports Club, the school has plans for a campus that will extend its facilities through to secondary school.
In the last academic year, the school received Qatar National School Accreditation (QNSA), with an outstanding report showing 100% parent satisfaction. According to the Qatar Ministry of Education, DBS Al Wakra is one of the top 20 schools in Qatar (Private, Public and International) in terms of parent and student satisfaction.
QNSA accreditation also means that Qatari families are eligible for education vouchers when enrolling children in Preschool to Year 8.
“The quality of learning, teaching and leadership are outstanding.” - QNSA report 2017
It’s not only parents and students who are able to recognise the school’s caliber though: For 2 years in a row, DBS Al Wakra has been shortlisted for the finals of the British International Schools Awards. In 2017, competing against British International Schools around the globe, DBS Al Wakra was shortlisted in the category ‘Senior Leadership Team of the Year’. This is a real testament to the quality of the school’s leadership and the tremendous progress it has made in the short time since it opened.
In 2018, DBS Al Wakra was again shortlisted for the British International School Awards in the category ‘Outstanding Pastoral Care Initiative’, which demonstrates the exceptional quality of pastoral care at the school. Vice Principal Mrs. Beverley Stevens stated:
“Our children’s needs are at the heart of DBS Al Wakra and pastoral care is paramount; discipline here relies on common sense, kindness and individual responsibility.
Many visitors comment on the friendliness of people at DBS Al Wakra and on the relaxed and yet purposeful relationships which exist between staff and pupils.
We aim for all of our children to leave with self-confidence, the ability to problem-solve, an awareness of their own feelings and those of others, and enough self-control and self-discipline to manage effectively the often turbulent years of adolescence and life after school.”
DBS Al Wakra is also accredited by British Schools Overseas (BSO) and is a member of British Schools of Middle East (BSME). BSO inspectors mentioned in the 2017 report:
“Doha British School Al Wakra is an outstanding school with many significant strengths.
DBS provides an excellent quality of education complemented by a high level of student care.”
Students develop knowledge, understanding and skills of the English National Curriculum, which is delivered by UK-qualified teachers, including specialist teachers for PE, Music and languages.
The curriculum has been designed for the maximum support of pupils, whose progress and attainment are carefully assessed and monitored across the learning framework. The school also offers a wide range of after-school activities, which enrich the curriculum, including sports, music, competitions, arts, drama, science, maths and computing.
Year 7 and Year 8 students will have the amazing opportunity to participate in Model United Nations (MUN) and attend conferences throughout the year.
MUN is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country. It takes real world problems and issues and shows students how changes can be made.
