if you connect your i phone to i tunes, you will see a button restore & update.
do not click this button or do not update if your i phone is not officially unlocked, you will end up on locked i phone, i dont know if they have unlocked software to 3.1 all i know is that 3.0.1 only, then click sync. then you can explore for your self, just dont update to 3.1 if you dont have an officially unlocked i phone thanks......
Just get the connector cable and connect it to your PC or laptop then open Itunes and you will see the device in left bar in itunes click on it and down see the setting enable auto sync whenever connected.

i got my iphone from star link and they told me that it was officially unlocked and asked me to sync it with itunes...

sure, but if u have 3GS, do not download, i tried it yesterday and it blocked my phone.

Is not that we won't answer but some times the response is right in front of your nose (I mean too obvious) but yet you refuse to see it.
