How many cucumbers fit the jar?

snakyy21
By snakyy21

Here is a question.... how many cucumbers would fit in a jar... if jar is a physical container... the answer is that it depends on the size of jar and cucumbers... regardless of the sizes the answer would not be..an infinite number of cucumbers.

Now the real question is.... how many people earth can sustain... the ansfwer again... not an infinite number... the point is... people numbers are groing (analogy is cucumbers)and earth (jar) is still the same... once you reach a certain number you start smashing the other cucumbers ... and everything inside the jar gets smashed.. and then start overflowing.. until it becomes a mess... and no more cucumbers can be added....

The bottom line is ... we can't increase in numbers forever... the longevity of human life is increasing.. the infant mortality is descreasing.. the numbers of people living on earth constantly increasing... More people fighting for less resources... it is a basic rule of economics... people needs are indefinite and resources are always limitted

The end results are widening wealth gap, people not being able to live in decent conditions with intact integrity.... and finally wars, famine, deseases, environmental destruction, predatory use of resources, etc etc etc

The worst part is that those who are poor tend to have more children even though they cant afford... they use them "as a safety net" which is quite selfish when you look it on a global scale. Then we go back and commplain about poverty, indecent living conditions, etc etc... it is a self-propelling vicious cycle with a constantly accelerating speed...

I mean .. if you are driving at 100 km an hour and approaching the wall.. what do you do ? if you want to live you hit the break (99.9999999%)... if you are a retard to that extent ... you hit the gas..... now if you look on the global scale... we hit the gas... and then we complain about atrocities happening in the world.... so unless we are able to colonize other plantes the population growth is an underlying or root cause of many problems.

Self - destruction is in human nature and it aint going anywhere until we teach our kids the right things to do.

Re: Renewable energy.. i think there are plenty of examples where renewable energy is a profitable business... btw.... even 10 year payback period is not bad at all... you can even make it shorter if you start trading CO2 allowances. Look at India for example... in the villages they now have solar panels... they are cheap and work fine employing women force btw.

Re: Overpopulation - it is still an issue even as we shift to renewables.... there is a need to limit population growth however we look at it... the worse part is population growth highest in the poorest countries... the ones who actually depend on aid... so we send aid... to build more dependancy on aid

Go back all - Read the original premise - the truth - one way or the other - its not about economics, its about ecology, physics and the biomass pyramid!

A belief arrived at without logic, learning and science - cannot be changed using logic learning and science.

One doesn't believe in logic - one understands it. Democracy is a belief, as are other social constructs, none are logical. Every specie exists because it found its ecological space - our belief that we have the right to destroy anything because we are humans is killing it all at a rate beyond belief.

65% of the fish in the sea have been fished in last 25 years - leaving just 35% for our children for all time.

Belief vs Logic

Suli, The factory you are talking about is in Ras Laffan. It is being constructed to produce polysilicon. It is Solar World's technology of Germany and they themselves will buy the product to reduce their costs. Hopefully, in the next 10 years, Qatar will start producing its own solar panels.

KR ,, It is a good news.

about china ,,, they are in the market but there panels are not efficient at all, in Jordan we were Importing the solar panels from Germany as well ("Wagner" the name of the company) it was expensive, and there were another Jordanian factory , they were Importing the raw material and do the Assembly in the factory (to reduce the cost a bit).

I wish that one day to see a green world, green energy everywhere.

And btw, As i know , there is a solar panels factory is under construction in Qatar!?

Suli, Qatar will start exporting polysilicon to Germany very shortly and at a cheaper rate than what Germans produce and hopefully there would be a forward integration in Qatar's polysilicon plant in RasLaffan in a few years where they themselves will start manufacturing solar panels.

Conversion of sand to silicon will be cheapest in Qatar owing to its abundance in dune sand, cheap power and affordable asian labour.

Btw, China is already an exporter of Solar Panels.

Snak21 ,, As i was working in the renewable energy, i have to tell you that it is not cheap, and a lot of people can't afford it and the pay pack period might reach 10 -20 years (BTW am talking about the middle east).

And what makes that worse, the governments, they've put a limitation, i.e you can't cover more than 25% of your consumption.

So i think it will start to be good when China start producing Solar Panels, or if we waited the Euro Solar panels to became cheaper!

BE.... green energy can be actually much muuuuuch cheaper than fossil fuel... in fact fossil fuel prices will continue increasing.. it is a limited non-renewable resource... hence the less is left... and the more the demand ... the more expensive it will become.. it is a simple economics.

The green energy and in particular renewables with high coefficients can be very cheap... just harvesting of sun energy alone could bring the prices down and secure human civilization for many centuries.

If you always thing short term... then you get yourself into mess... if you do proper planning and evolve.. like an intelligent civilization should do... then you make life good for everyone

brit, I agree, at present the cost of green energy is higher than conventional ones but a time will come when the latter would become so dearer that the former would then become much viable. Yes, its not straight forward now but countries like Germany have taken the lead. They have certain legislations in place that encourage green energy producers, transmitters and users. I wish rest of the world also followed them to ensure a seamless transition in the years to come.

Invest in R/D on making solar cells and deep cycle batteries cheaper, introduce legislation to promote green energy and make sale and purchase of allied items tax free.

Snakky21, Couldnt have agreed more..

It is not straight forward. The government has started levying green taxes to peomote clean energy. Whilst the aim is noble , the cost to the ordinary tax payer is exhorbitant and he/she sees no short medium benefits.

Totally agree with you KR. And because of this selfshness we are on a collision path... cause mother can slap her kids real bad when they misbehave... so you dont want to mess around... but the kids are too stupid to get it.

The point is we are not a sustainable civilization... we are growing in numbers rapidly without really any plan to address the emerging issues... and the quality of life, decency of existence become less important... it is like... everyone for himself... after so many mileniums... it is a jungle out there... with lots of thick head primitive neandertals

Every government makes agenda for its country, but where is the unified agenda for our mother earth? Basic concepts like reducing polpulation, reducing greenhouse gases, ensuring drinkable water to people, food sustainence, pollution control and reducing non-decomposable wastes etc. are few of the issues that need to be resolved by the new world order.

Naaaahhhh Britexpat... what is needed is that we all collectively start caring of what is happening... we don't apply double standards... we are genuine in our desires to help others.... or at least not to harm them...and we understand that we are all in this together... and does not matter what race, color skin, nationality or religion you belong to.... we are all in this together.. and we need to stop thinking locally and selfishly... and start thinking about the legacy we leave for our children.. and the children of our children. And we teach our children the right things... so that they can pass it on to their children.. so that they can be a better race... an Earthian Race

exactly KR... and those so called "representative"... could care more about people... just holding to power... the attitude is... "if i am ok then good"... "after me even world calamity is fine... " ...and then secondary principle... "as long as my family is ok... " to hell with everyone else...

And the reason it works for them.. is too many people lacking intelligence and big picture in their heads... lacking education... and genuinly dont give a rat...it is the complacency that will cause most of harm to people... until person feels the pain... he won't even bother to understand the brother next to him... and even if he does something... just to feel good about himself... just for "show"

If people all over the world have a sincere desire to unite and bring in some universal laws to make life better in the furure, they can do it. I tell you, its not difficult to change our ways for the better...but what we lack is the will and our representatives are driven by self interests in whatever they do. They don't see the bigger picture.

I dont think so... I think they would help each other to survive... and work together. And yes... it is a problem.... it is a simple Economics....and a simple calculation... you can look at it from food supply point of view.... CO2 emission... land pricing... etc etc... or just look what is going on in the world... people getting more selfish

BE... that's not humane... we need more humane approach... survival of the fittest is good... but there are people who are not fit... and they need help.... we are not animals to live by animal kingdom rules... can a kid defend himself... can an old man fight young... that's why we have government...... stake... police... law !! and that's why we need a sustainable development

By snakyy21• 5 Jun 2013 08:42

and so are education and ability to see the "big picture"... and look beyond one's self interests.

For instance.... Indian is a democratic country.... which is good.... but then every community cares for themselves only... for their self interest.. they don't want to understand the limitations... and that if they get more benefits.... then other will get less... even though the others are already less privilaged...

Europe... does not want to go through austerity measures... yet was very happy wasting money left and right during the bubble time... people dont want to understand that the natureal process will always prevail over forced and unnatural setting... just the matter of time.

"The end results .....wars, famine, deseases, environmental destruction, predatory use of resources, etc etc etc"

And herein lies the future. The above will help reduce the population. The fittest will survive and some will move on to other planets and begin life anew.
