Outdoor Aviary
Hi Friends
Just seeking frinds with similar interest of bird keeping. The inner passion towards the nature will come out in the right atmosphere. It started before 4 months and became a creative hobby, now lacking time to enjoy watching these tiny feathered creatures life. There positive attitude towards life is absolutely fantastic. Humans have lot to learn from them. Laziness is not in their book. Our outdoor aviary has 42 inmates. All in pairs, down from Bantams, Quails to variety of small finches. They will flourish if you provide the minimum requirements they need. but if providing a resemblence of their natural habitat with plant cover, water sources etc, you will see the difference. they will thrive to full of life, and it will be endless joy to watch them, socializing, breeding, foraging, nesting, bringing up their young etc. It is nice to wake up with different rymes of morning calls as we have a bedroom window opening to aviary. Here the list of inmates with us
Coturnix Quail 10
Californian Quail 4
Diamond Dove 2
Budgies 4
Dutch Bantams 2
Cockatiel 2
Love Birds 2
Java sparrow 2
Zebra Finches 3
Canaries 2
Spice Finches 1
Red Eared Waxbills 2
Gouldian Finches 2
Hecks Grass Finches 2
Society (Bengalese) 2
Zebra's are nesting with 5 eggs (This is their second within a month, first hatching only 1 female baby)
java sparrows and Societies also nesting. both the pair also possess 5 eggs. Canaries started laying in their nest, unfortunately a male Californian Quail intruded into her nest and broke one egg. These guys are absolutely inquisitive and roosts high at night. Love birds and Cockatiels, booked their nest already. So they are all busy with life.
my Concerns were, Since I started just 4 months, not have been to summer yet. Thinking and plans to survive the summer. I have double net at top. It is 5X6X5 Meter in size. since 3 sides are covered with walls, there is no much draft inside. I can't hard cover the top, then the plants will starve of sunlight. Thinking of some broad plants and water spray cooler with a timer in summer. All feeders / Waterers are automated to reduce maintainance time to minimum.
I am expecting to open up a Forum to discuss people with similar interests, experts, starters to discuss the possibilities to better the life of this small creatures.
Here I am posting few snaps from the aviary.
Expecting some new friends soon.

I had cages and covers inside, but all are open, they can choose a nest inside the cage if they like. Some times I need to lock a pair to the cage just pairing them up and I will free them once they paired.
mujeeb do you or do you not keep the birds inside cages?
If you are interested you are welcome, give me a ring. I am happy to share the ideas with friends of similar passion.
How can I post few snaps of the birds inside. Is there an option to add photos
Hi
This nest in the photo I brought from Kerala, India. Such nests are not available here. But you will find some fascinating nets in Souq Waqif (Irani Souq)in the birds section.
edifis , thax . am on ma way ;P
you don't have cages????
If not I respect you and hope more can learn from your wondeful example....
Thats a tailor bird or may be a weaver bird's nest. Its difficult to get one like that. May be you have to go to the forest & get an abandoned nest.
Cool.. I have few of them seen on ma windows almost every day. I have been looking for a nest, just the one in the pic. where can I get one pls?
I wish I had the time to do the same.
Wow! So refreshing! Such a fantastic hobby! And the best thing about it is you don't lock them up in cages!
I would love to see your aviary.
