Books on Pregnancy

By zahrin

We just found out recently from the untrascan that my wife is 6 weeks pregnant. As a husband and father-to-be, I'm trying to find books on pregnancy, to find more tips and know-hows to assist her for the next 8 months or so.

I've tried to go down to Jarir Bookstore and City Centre, but to no avail. Does anyone know where in Doha can I get these books? Or if you have such books, I don't mind buying a 2nd hand book.

PM or email me. May you have a splendid day ahead.

Thank you.

Hey nadt, did you know that there is also a Mozart for babies? Very good. They had a study that music stimulates the childs brain construction better.

Javi..spot on..I purchased all their books and they are very comprehesive and user friendly and accurate, i read it month to month regrading what to expect and still do for the toddler years..

Authors are Arlene Eisenberg, Heidi Murkoff and Sandee E Hathaway...

They wrote

1) What to expect when your expecting

2) What to expect the first year

2)What to expect the toddler years..

Good to know that your son is all fully grown now. Life is a surprising miracle.

Like your tagline, i'm experiencing the taste life as i grow more mature.......

Thank you for all your tips and advices. For sure qatar living will see more of me and my wife......

I agree with you. The book acts as a self reference guide. True-life experiences counts especially when we are not in a familiar environment and culture that we're used to.

And to think it again, i have to confess that i've never finish reading a book, magazines, or anything eventhough how intresting it is.

In fact, i guess it's just a Man's thing that we would be more intrested in pictures and diagrams.............

As of now, i can agree with you. What else can we do aside from taking note of the growth progression from time to time.

But what makes me worried is that the pain she's been and will be suffering. How i wish i can make her feel slightly comfortable. Maybe Dr Miriam Stoppard, or the forum can help me out on this......

I'm going thru the various threads in this forum which i find intresting regarding mum-to-be and best place to give birth, etc.....

Don't worry you don't have to read the whole book. Hubby did'nt, he just read the more informitive pictures.hehehe. But seriously, there is a lot in these books that  you proberbly wont relate too. we used it as more as a sort of guide than any thing else. the best way is to ask people about their experiances and pick which ones relate to your situation.

Oh yes definately, I'll make sure that both of us minggles around with such groups that will helps us alot.

I googled for the author and, yea, i guess i must buy it. If i cant find it at Virgin, i might buy it thru Amazon...

As we're going to be a 1st time parent, i guess your comment can be handy. Thank you.

i think the reason why most dads to be like it is because as women most of us pretty much know whats going on with our bodies and the changes we are going through during prenancy. Our husbands can feel a little left out because while its happening for them its not happening to them. My husbands favorite bits were looking at the progression of growth from weeks to weeks.

i was 'introduced' to DR Miriam Stoppard some many many moons ago when she had her own TV talk show for pregnant mothers and infants and that is how i knew /heard of her(and right smack on time too as after a mth or so i found myself to be in the family way, infact if i had  had a daughter i would've named her Miriam)

agree with ya mis cat, and wat we did when i was pregnant was (since darlin husband aint the readin type) before we go to bed at night we would read it out loud(or rather i would read it out loud) together and man that was so comforting to know that he too was into it (at least to some point we the women dont go it alone).hubby felt that he was bonding with JR fr the very start.........

hey zahrin first and foremost congrats to you and yr wife .

regarding books on pregnancy , one that i really treasured is the one by Dr Miriam Stoppard  is a book fr the time the mother conceives till the baby turns 3 yrs of age. is really a very good book with tips and all, i had this book when i was in the family way and was living abroad with my husband where we were away fr family and friends (to ask for tips and advice) and this as i called  my 'bible' was indeed a tremendous help. hope you will be able to get it at either Virgin bookstore or Jarir ...gl
