This question has been asked and answered many times. Suggest you try doing a search to find them.

Short answer - legally no. You are subject to arrest and deportation if caught.

Main reason people are caught - a vindictive neighbour or nasty co-worker reports them to the police.

The police won't look for you but they will act on complaints.
