Corporal Punishment in Schools
Everyone,
I am currently researching for an article that will appear in Woman Today magazine here, on the subject of corporal punishment in Qatar. If there is any student currently in school in Qatar or a parent of one, would it be possible for you to answer a couple of questions (they're below) on the subject?? I'm aiming to get as many first-hand (and please give sensible answers!) experiences of the situation. Anonymity is guaranteed upon request, as this is referring to the situation in general - however if you are ok with your name being used within the article then this is great!I'm looking at all schools in Qatar rather than just one or two dealing with specific curriculums...
1) Has corporal punishment happened to you in school?
What did you do that the teacher disapproved of?
2) How were you punished?
3) What happened afterwards? (i.e. did you or parent complain, and how did the school react and deal with it)
4) Do you agree with coporal punishment in schools? Why do you agree/disagree?
5) Should this form of punishment be left entirely up to the parents or is it ok for the schools to carry it out?
6) If you are a parent whose child has suffered from corporal punishment at school, what effect did it have on your child?
7) Are schools apparently aware that corporal punishment is illegal in Qatar? (come to that do they also disrespect any ban imposed on it in the home country?)
If it's possible to get responses in over the next week or so, this would be great!
Many thanks guys for taking the trouble to answer!
Nadia
I am a parent and a teacher and from my personal experience I haven't witnessed any type of corporal punishment neither where I work nor at my childrens school.
"Are schools apparently aware that corporal punishment is illegal in Qatar?"
Could you kindly give me a link to the law that you refer to on this issue?
